Bull Falls Holzhacker Lager
4-pack of 16 oz. cans for $7.69 from Woodman´s Market in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Pours a quite hazy yellow with white foam and good carbonation. The aroma is slightly metallic, probably from the can or maybe from the age of the beer. The cans are stamped on the bottom, but cannot be deciphered by the consumer. The taste is light and sweet with little hop presence, but quite a bit of caramel sweetness. This tastes like they used a cheap base malt because it lacks depth and body. The alcohol content is too high for a Munich Helles. This tastes very much like a typical American microbrewed lager beer despite its German name. Decent enough, but I can get a four pack of 16.9 oz. cans of König Pilsener for $3.99, Pilsner Urquell for $6.99 and Carlsberg for $4.69. A marginal quality pseudo German beer at this price?

Bull Falls Oatmeal Stout - Bourbon Barrel Aged
Pours an opaque brown color with khaki colored head. Soft nose on this, but there is definitely barrel character, oak, vanilla, whiskey, along with the usual chocolate of and oatmeal stout; follows onto the palate. Full bodied, very smooth, easy drinking. Finishes with light barrel character and some nice sweet chocolate.

Tap at Badger State. Black. Nose of soy, light smokey roast, chocolate and light oaky bourbon. Flavor is better with chocolate, light dry oak, bourbon, faint coconut and roast. Lingering chocolate, booze and roast.

Brown pour. Brown sugar and faint roast. Flavor is light nutty roast with molasses, brown sugar, and caramel. Some lager feel, but a bit too sweet and choppy to be smooth.

No hints of smoke, vanilla or clove like flavors?? I got alot of wheat and lemon off of this beer. Color is hazy yellow with a fastly dissipating head. Little to no lacing on the glass. A great summer thirst quencher. But can be a winter beer too.

Bull Falls Oktoberfest
16 oz. can purchased in Barron, Wisconsin. Pours a cloudy amber with an off-white head with good foam retention. The aroma is of yeast and sweet malt. The flavor is also very sweet with low bitterness. The website says that it has 15.2 IBU´s which is way too low. Not bad and drinkable enough but not great and somewhat thin tasting despite the amber color. I am willing to bet that they are using cheap Canadian grown barley malt to make this. You will not create authentic German beers using cheap barley malt. Spend a little more any buy some Durst/Weyermann/Schill base malts and you will produce a German beer. There is nothing German about this except the Bavarian blue and white colors on the can. Once again, all show and no substance.

Tap, part of sampler. Pours dark red to amber color with a slight white clinging head. Very light chocolate/caramel notes. Taste is slightly malty with a light beer crispness with slight notes of chocolate and caramel coming through. Starts as a dark beer beer and finishes light and clean, for some reason I have the word "Decepticon" written in my notes...

Can. Very dark cola pour with a large initial head that fades fast. The whiskey on aroma seems a little hot and cheap. Taste is okay with more cheap whiskey. Can was oddly soft a couple weeks ago and oddly hard today - not a dick joke, I think there was some chemistry going on in this can. Mildly drinkable.

Dark chestnut color with a moderate sized tan head. Aromas of toasted to lightly roasted malt, some caramel and mild dry herbs. Full feel. Heavier bock presents. Dark malts, and a bit of wintergreen hops. Strong dark caramel. Quite smooth. The malt lacks some richness and depth for what I am looking for in a great bock, but still a good bock.

16oz. can purchased in Menomonie, WI. Pours very dark brown with a nice, long lasting off-white head. The aroma is very clean, the beer is quite clear. The taste is exactly what it should be: malty dark with a slight hint of coffee from the black patent malt. This tastes very much like a true German Schwarzbier and does not have that prune / licorice flavor found in so many dark American craft beers. My only criticism is the alcohol content which here says 6.6% and on their webstie says 6.0%. In either case, it is much too high and makes this a black Bockbier. Compare this to Köstritzer Schwarzbier at 4.8% alcohol by volume. Cut back a bit on the overall malt bill and you would have a real winner.
