3.7 Lone Peak IPA The nose was a pretty rough hoppiness just barely balanced by a lite pale malt presence... got a bunch of citrus and some background grassy hops... If the nose is right, then this is gonna be a fairly unapologetic hop bomb. Mmmm... Nose was right... Pithy citrus hops.. again still a bit of grassy hops too... the bitterness is pretty high even for an AIPA... the malts act more as a hop delivery device right square into the middle of my palate... The finish does sorta drop off a tad quick.. the body and carbonation are exactly where they should be. Tuesday, September 13, 2016

3.4 Lone Peak Class V Amber Picked up a single 12-oz can at the brewery’s taproom in Big Sky, Montana. Pours a semi-clear brownish amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that quickly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of dog biscuty caramel malt, a hint of grassy hops and some earthy spice. Taste is medium bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of multi-grain malt, some biscuity malt, grassy hops and a touch of dates. Finish is semi-dry, a short lived grassy hop aftertaste followed by some biscuity malt flavors. A mildly Americanized ESB overall. Monday, September 5, 2016

4 Lone Peak Retro Red Ale Picked up a single 12-oz can at the brewery’s taproom in Big Sky, Montana. Pours a dark reddish brown amber colored brew with a thick beige head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of both grass and citrus hops, caramel malt, and dark pitted fruits. Taste is medium to full bodied with flavors of citrus and grassy hops, rich caramel malt, a hint of plums and some earthy spice. Finish is borderline IPA and hoppy amber ale. Additional short lived spiced hops with a mild caramel malt aftertaste. Turned out to be a pleasant surprise for this hoppy american amber ale. Monday, September 5, 2016

3.6 Lone Peak Class V Amber Pint at the brewpub. This is a very clear, deep amber beer with a long lasting white head. Pleasantly biscuity aroma with toffee. Hops are a piney and ctirusy, they don’t really explode but there’s enough there to let you know what’s going on. The flavor is pleasantly clean with a good balance between the malts and hops. Citrus notes highlight a pleasant biscuity sweetness. Attenuation seems more significant than a traditional ESB. Well made beer. Friday, August 26, 2016

3.3 Lone Peak Swiftwater Pils Pint at the brewpub. Looks pretty clear gold with a small white head. This is a straightforward take on a pilsner. It’s balanced with a very doughy malt character. Notes of corn husks and cereal come through. It’s lightly hopped, just some noble hop bitterness for balance. Finishes sharp and medium dry. Decent. Friday, August 26, 2016

4.1 Lone Peak Class V Amber Poured from can into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed deep amber color with a huge billowy off white head. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a caramel smell mixed with some aromas of some hops of a more herbal and earthy nature. Mixed with these smells comes aromas roast as well as some nice smells of a more grainy and grassy nature. Taste – The taste begins with a slightly more malty and sweet flavor with a decent dose of caramel mixed with a lightly roasted and toasted malt flavor. As the taste moves on toward to the middle, the sweeter flavors of caramel intensify and are joined by a little bit of dark fruit taste. After this point however, the sweeter flavors fade a bit all while some hop flavors of a more earthy, herbal, and grassy nature come to the tongue. With all the transitions that occur throughout the taste, one is left with a nicely balanced sweet, roasty, and hoppy amber flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average overall. For the mix of hop, roast, and sweet the feel is fantastic and makes for a very easy drinking brew overall. Overall – This is a rather flavorful and drinkable red ale that has a nice blend of sweet, roast, and hop all while maintaining a respectable abv. of 5.25 %. If you get a chance I would say try it out and see what you think, as I rather liked it. Sunday, February 8, 2015

4.1 Lone Peak Retro Red Ale Poured from can into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a lighter amber-red color with a billowy head of pure white foam. The head of the brew has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a dark fruit aroma with some cherry, plum, and raisin along with some bready aromas mixed within. A light hop smell consisting of a mix of pine, citrus, and earth is there as well giving a rather nice and somewhat sweet aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins with a bready taste mixed with some flavors of caramel and a little bit of darker fruits of cherry and plum. As the taste advances the bready remains relatively constant, but the caramel seems to fade a bit with it being replaced by more dark fruit of cherry, raisin, and plum. All the while some hop flavors also develop on the tongue with both a citrus and grassy hop flavor coming to the tongue. A little bit of a brown sugar flavor as well as a light earthy taste comes at the very end, leaving a nice blend of bready, sweet fruit, and hop flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. For the blend of hop, malt, and sweeter flavors of the brew, and in light of the lower abv. of the beer, the feel is fantastic, making for a more refreshing and crisp brew, but yet still upholding the flavors of the beer quite well. Overall - For an only 4.5 % abv. brew this one packs in a great blend of hop and flavor and makes for one fantastic and easy drinking but yet quite delicious and rich flavorful brew. This is one I hope they continue to make in the future. Saturday, February 7, 2015

3.3 Lone Peak Class V Amber Must have been a badly shaken up can, lots of tan head. Rich aroma of hops. Taste is slightly malty, with a nice hoppy kick. A decent amber ale, a bit hoppy than my favorite ambers. Still, thumbs up. Sunday, November 23, 2014

2.6 Lone Peak Headplant Pale Ale Draft sample. Pale gold in color with medium carbonation. Muted and simple aromas of orange peel and pale malt. 2.1 Lone Peak Raspbeery Wheat This is a cloudy opaque raspberry pilsner. The aroma hits you in the face, but its sad insipid finish pales next to a classic lambic. Try their steep n deep or bourbon stout instead. Tuesday, June 17, 2014

3.2 Lone Peak IPA Amber color. Sweet malty aroma. Sips bitter and hoppy. Body is full and pleasantly full. Description makes you think it’s gonna be really hoppy, but it’s just middle of the road. Nice finish, dry and flavorful. Decent brew Saturday, November 9, 2013

3.4 Lone Peak Bourbon Barrel Oatmeal Stout Bottle: Black, large dark brown head, spotty lacing. Faint roasted malt nose. Not getting my barrel aging. Airy on the tongue to start, moderate sweetness, but not very rich. Barrel aging is minor. Needs more barrel aging and body. Not a big Imperial Stout to begin with. Does hide the 9% ABV well tho. Each time I see something is barrel aged I get my hopes up, sometimes too much. Tiz alright, a lighter stout without much Bourbon barrel character. Wednesday, August 28, 2013
