Aspen Ajax Pilsner
Slightly hazy pale gold pour with a two finger fluffy white head. Aroma is floral, slightly perfumey, sweet cereal malt, hints of lemon, honey and mineral. Flavor is nice, toasty sweetness up front, big floral hops, light spicy hops, rich cereal, hints of zesty citrus, some mineral and herbal bitterness. Light body, fairly neutral entry, crisp after that, medium carbonation. Solid pils for sure.

Aspen Independence Pass Ale IPA
12 oz. can from Safeway. Pours an unclear, orange color, with a small, off-white head. The nose is juniper, lavender, rye, hay, and caramel. Not exactly dry, but with a harsh, astringent bitterness. This is an aggressive and simple IPA. Fair.

Taste at Trail's End. Pours black, with a thin, fleeting, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is dark roast coffee, green banana, black pepper, and rubber. Dry and biting, with a syrupy, acetyl finish. Heavy body, with a syrupy, sticky palate. This is unfortunate. I assume it's off.

Pour is a slight hazy gold with a large white head. Aroma is a big time yeast ester with some white pepper and soft biscuit malt. Flavor is bubble gum yester with some peppery spice. A little thin on the mouthfeel but otherwise this is a good example of a old world saison.

Pours rustic orange with a thin white head & little lacing. The aroma has a peachy pungentness about it. The flavor comes off flat & weird. Something isn’t mixing well here. Touch of a traditional blonde with the slightest hint of peach & sourness. Pretty much a mess!

12 oz. can purchased at Total Wine & Liquor in Colorado Springs, CO. Pours a hazy light gold color with a very large white head and excellent retention. Lots of spotty lacing. Kind of sour aroma. Lots of streaming bubbles. Light yeast lager flavor with a light citrus finish. Not much else. Okay but forgettable. Soft mouthfeel.

Canned, 355ml from The Smiling Grape Company, St. Neots, Cambs. Pale gold with white head. There is a sourish lemon character to this along with a soured peach flavour. Thinnish malt notes, quite grainy, cereal. Washing liquid hints. It's okay.

Aspen This Season's Blonde
July 2019 Can from Cloud Wine, Southampton for less than £1. Ooh, this is more interesting than I expected. Kinda roasty woody notes to start, firm oily body, some petrol fumes, kinda Belgian, odd. Hmmm. There's a lot of flavour here - not quite sure it's all the sort of flavour I want. This may be one of those beers that really is best drunk cold. Very cold. The flavours are building up in my mouth kinda like petrol fumes. Spicy, phenolic, smoke, bandaid, TCP, plastic, peanut skin, raw potato. Gawd! I think I've had enough now. The interesting is starting to turn into unpleasant and difficult to drink much more. Yes. Enough. Stop. This is the sort of beer that drunk cold in small samples would remain interesting and intriguing, but drunk as a proper drinking beer - a full can at room temperature, it becomes a chore to the point of torture.

Cloudy light golden with a thin foamy white head. Rich interesting aroma that’s peppery and limey with some passionfruit and melon and papaya. Smooth pale flavor that’s soft and semidry with notes of wheat and pale grains with some tropical notes of melon and white peppercorn and mango and pine. Interesting and cool.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly/fully diminishing. Body is light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (basement), with light notes of concrete, apple, fusel alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Clunky and phenolic, with some light bug-spray-ish alcohol odor. Drain pour, although not *quite* repulsive.

Draft. Aspen Ajax Pilsner
From can at 2018 Aspen Food & Wine, it tastes like sweettarts and aspirin, chalky and sugary and watery with more of a rice-cracker neutral and empty malt character than anything, and with non-existent hop expression which doesn't qualify this as Pilsner.

Aspen Ajax Pilsner
Aroma: Can - yeast, low hop aroma that is grassy, as the aromas settle the hops become more prevalent. The aroma is clearly a pilsner, very clean impression. Low malt sweetness, light cracker. Appearance: Crystal clear body with a golden pale straw color. The head lingures at a half a figure thick, is brilliant white with mostly small bubbles and a few mediums tossed in. Flavor: Malty flavor, with a strong toasted malt impression, like a good fresh bread, not rye but strong not placing it. The hops brighten the malts providing a grassy/low citrus lift to the beer, and also providing a nice bittering balance to the finish. The balance is more malty but the finish while moist is pleasantly bitter, encouraging another drink. Mouthfeel: Medium to thin body, with medium high carbonation. No alcohol warmth detected, not creamy due to the carbonation, and low astringency associated with the bittering hops. Overall: a solid pilsner, not quite German but as an American pilsner it is not overpowering hops, it is a refreshing beer that is easy drinking.

Can. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of gas station restroom (both urine and gasoline, not kidding!) Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Shockingly bad aroma...the gasoline stench is nearly the most prominent odor coming out of the glass (and it ain't the glass's fault, I'm sorry to say)...add old urine stink to that, and there's not much point in going any further with the aromatic analysis. A flawed sample for certain, but it's hard to guess where the blame lies. Utterly terrible.

Aspen 10th Mountain Imperial Stout
Tap, moderate to heavy dark bread, toasted and coffee for the malt, light herbs for the hops, light to moderate leather for the yeast, with hints of tobacco and wood in the background. Head is average size, creamy, light tan, with thick but slippery lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts slightly sweet, then finishes lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a soft carbonation. Not a blow away Imperial Stout, but still a really nice drinking beer.

Tap. Moderate light bread, cookie and grain, light lemon and herbs for the hops, moderate dough and musty for the yeast, with hints of clove and banana in the background. Head is large, frothy, white, with spotty lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy pale yellow. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and slightly bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, dry, with a lively to fizzy carbonation and a dry finish. A nice crisp Saisn with a lot of Belgian aspects to it.
