Backlog September 2011. Unclear golden body under a big, creamy off-white head. Aroma is spicy with yeast and white sugar. Taste is quite sweet with pale malt, sugar and some generic fruitiness. Medium body and same aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours cloudy brown-deep amber with thin, light beige that dissipates quickly. Stone fruit and brown sugar aroma with a touch of tartness. Brown sugar and tart stone fruit flavor. Medium-full body with an effervescent mouthfeel. Long, mildly tart finish.

Bottle from Beer Table. Pours a dark brown with a buff head. Smells of cider vinegar. Bery nutty flavors with the cider notes. Full bodied with low carbonation and a tart finish. I like it.

This is a backlog rating from 2007 from a bottle shared by Matt, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are caramel, yeasty, honey, raisins, mild funk.

Super dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, very fast-dying tan and off-white head that starts at about a centimetre tall and fades to just about nothing, only a few seconds later. Aroma of strong pitted fruits, deep malts with some caramelised sugars, treacle, molasses and lightly smoked peat noticeable along with a dash of stronger umami and slightly meaty notes along with a alcohol warmth noticeable at the end. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong malty bite at first with a lot of earthiness, some nuts and a deep sweet bite from the figs, pitted fruits and caramelised sugars, all coming out at once, even with some honey picked up on the edges as well. Aftertaste shows the robust malts, a relatively thin body towards the end, most likely due to the [not very long] aging of this one, but a mellow nutty flavour and a lot of sweetness, which balances things out nicely without any bitterness or pungency, but the alcohol does come through at the end and warm things up a tad as you'd expect at over ten per cent alcohol, but this really doesn't feel like 12 per cent, as most real belgians won't. Overall, a good beer, and reminds me for a time when I could just hop on a plane, head over to Bruxelles and goto any convenience store and find 10 new beers that I haven't seen before, all for under €3! However, I'm stuck with this one, from here in the United States, but luckily a few years ago and I'd recommend this to just about anyone who can keep it for a little bit of time, and as long as you don't mind a slightly thinner body for a quadruple, then this one should probably be kept for at least 5 years before drinking. I sampled this stubby, 33 cL bottle purchased from Knightly Spirits in Orlando (Orange Blossom Trail), Florida on 05-May-2018 for US$4,74 sampled at my house here in Washington on 18-August-2020 after a bit more than 2 years aging here.

330ml bottle at Gambrinus, Bruges on 29/07/2010. This was after the Regenboog brewery had closed, I believe, but there were still a number of their beers kicking around in Bruges. This was a really nice Dubbel, with big caramel, cake, dried fruit and yeasty notes.

330ml bottle in 2012 (think it was a raffle prize at a beer festival from some time prior to that). Lightly hazy deep golden with a white head. Aroma of leafy hops, pine, esters and candied peal. Thick body and resinous hop bitterness mixes with fruity yeast notes.

10/V/18 - 33cl bottle from a trade, shared with Alengrin @ Belgian ticks tasting (home) - BB: 2nd Q/2014 (wtf?) (2018-689) Very big thanks to Lee B. for the trade!

Pretty clear blond to orange beer, small aery irregular white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit oxidized, lots of orange peel, sweetish, some dried fruits. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit oxidized (no way!), sweetish, more oxidation, sweet, orange peel, alcohol. Aftertaste: sugary, sweet, alcohol, oxidized, some ripe banana, more oxidation, spicy, actually still pretty decent, given the old age on this bottle!

Brugs Beertje 25
Ten year old vintage bottle of a liquorice-flavoured tripel the original (now defunct) Regenboog brewery of Johan Brandt made in 2008 for the 25th anniversary of Brugs Beertje, the famed pioneering beer pub in Bruges. Thanks to tderoeck for sharing the bottle. Snow white ‘head’, basically nothing but a thin ring which eventually disappears altogether, over a hazy peach-tinged golden blonde beer, turning misty and eventually dark and murky with sediment. Aroma obviously oxidized, but not in an unpleasant, rusty way: there is a less flattering chicken soup-like effect without a doubt, but at the same time some maderisation has apparently happened here as well, resulting in an old sweet sherry-ish aroma hovering above the beer’s basic features of banana, marmalade, white bread, clear liquorice, gari, powder sugar, sweetbread, dessert wine, pear. Sweet onset, banana and candied orange, marmalade-ish, candy apple, softly carbonated, slick and a bit sticky mouthfeel due to all those residual sugars which have no more hop structure to be balanced out; caramelly and light bready malt body with this honeyish sweetness on top, leading to a clearly sherry-ish and chicken soup-like oxidized finish in which a glow of peppery, ‘jenever’-like alcohol provides warmth and a firm dosis of liquorice a sweet spiciness different from the usual coriander seed. Old school Belgian spiced tripel, befitting the classic brown beer café atmosphere of Brugs Beertje, glad I tasted this one even if time very obviously had its effect on it

This is a good Belgian, but not quite top notch. Cloudy brown/amber appearance. Lots of carbonation here...champagne-like mouthfeel. Almost overly sweet flavor...tasty though. Sweet and sour fruit, malty, wheaty, with good hop finish. The honey and raisons stand out nicely. A lot like DFH Raison D' Etra (but twice the price). Worth the try, but there are better in this style.

My bottle looks like the picture with Kerst not winter so this may be a bit old. Pour is a murky dirty river water brown. Aroma is dark fruit and fig pudding. Flavor is some dark fruit and lots of tootsie roll like sweetness. No alcohol is felt but it is getting a bit warmer in here. This is a big malty, dark fruit flavored strong ale. Not much spices are felt this is all about the dark fruit malt and sugar.

Bottle at Ebenezers. Pours unclear blonde, small to no white head. Smell is dusty, intense madeira. Taste is midlly tart (very mild ) madeira, tad dry, still notes of sweetness. Too old for sure by now. Not so great anymore a it might have once been.

Rated on 11-20-2016. This bottled beer’s appearance is a very small white/off-white head, hazy golden body, fizzy, lively, fast rising carbonation, and spotty lacing. The aroma is yeast, grassy, spicy, and malt. The flavor is spicy, yeasty, malt, sweet, alcohol, and it has a dry finish. The mouthfeel is thin and smooth and this beer is medium bodied. For the style, this beer is very disappointing as the taste is out of sync for its style. It is quite untasteful and bland. It did not leave me wanting this beer again.

A hazed golden blonde ipa with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light oxidation character, light mineral notes, resinous citrusy floral hops, treacle, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with light resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light oxidation, treacle, pleasant and still solid after 7 years. Bièropholie imports.

Draft. Originally categorised on RateBeer as a "Dry Stout". Very dark brown, almost black, in colour. Very heavily hopped (very earthy hops). Malty (roast/burnt malts, caramel, toffee, candy sugar, some chocolate). Fruity (dried fruits). Bit Spicy. Bitter earthy hoppy and roast malty throughout. Totally dominated by mega quantity of hops. Hoppy Dry Stout? or Hoppy Belgian Strong? Either way, it was a very decent beer. Enjoyed this. (2008)

Bottled, 2006 vintage, sampled in 2016. Brown colored, small mostly disappearing beige head, still some pressure upon opening. Aged nose, malts, caramel, molasses, ethanol, not bad. Malty flavor, sharp alcohol, caramel, together with some cardboard. Ten years was way too long, but still it’s quite reasonable.

11.2 oz. bottle picked up locally and discovered in the back of my fridge recently. Pours a hazy deep amber brown color with a medium plus sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, brown sugar, ripe dark fruits, dates, fig, some berries, spices, coriander, some oxidation as this wasn’t a fresh bottle, but still pretty tasty, alcohol was warming, but blended nicely with the beer.
