2.7 Sweetwater Summer Ale Bottle. Cloudy and pale with a big head. The aroma is quite toasty. Balanced but the beer gets tart late on the palate, which is a bit of an issue. Monday, February 8, 2016

3.4 Sweetwater Pale Ale A decent pale ale but their 420 Extra Pale Ale is already weak enough to be refreshing so I don’t need this version. But thanks. Thursday, April 30, 2015

3.1 Sweetwater Porter No BB found. Poured an opaque black with a mahogany red around the edges. The three-finger light tan foamy head diminished quickly and left a few sudsy lacings on the glass. Aroma of sweet fruits, (a bit unusual for a porter) and very faint molasses. Taste not follow the aroma - very strongly of roasted grain, a bit spicy, a trace of sweetness and a hint of coffee. Medium body. The smooth, soft, finish a bit of a let down but still a decent porter. Tuesday, October 8, 2013

3.5 Sweetwater IPA (Australia) Looks good with a darkish colour for an ipa and some nice heavy lacing. Roasted malt and citrus flowers are present on the aroma, however it is a little underwhelming. Similar flavours although the citrus hop flavour becomes more prominent. Well balanced and good bitterness. A reasonable beer without too much excitement. Thursday, September 5, 2013

3 Sweetwater Pale Ale From a 330ml bottle on 25/6/2012. Pours a murky amber with the tiniest head which disappears almost immediately. Has a slight fruity, yeasty aroma. The flavour is primarily citrus and stone fruit with some more yeasty notes. Finishes with a medium bitterness. The carbonation is a touch high. Has a bit of a home brew feel to it. This is okay but there are plenty of better Australian pales out there. Monday, June 25, 2012

3 Sweetwater Porter Crisp clear cola coloured body with a ridiculously thick tan head that shows a lot of glistening microbubbles - but huge for sure. Aroma of raisins, earthy malt, plums and prunes and a good dose of sugars tossed in the mix. Medium-bodied; Assertive plum and raisin flavour at first with a touch of tobacco and smoke with a touch of a meaty flavour at the end - all with some good sweetness and a little malty bite. Aftertaste shows more of the meaty and tobacco flavours than anything else, but some of the sweetness comes out as well. Overall, not such a great beer, but some interesting flavour combinations and a great way to celebrate an amazing Australian Open 2012 final between Nadal & Djokovic. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from just down the street from Rod Laver Arena at Slowbeer in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 31-December-2009 for AU$3.50 sampled at home in Washington on 29-January-2012. 3 Sweetwater Porter From a 330ml bottle on 20/7/2011. Pours dark with a medium head. Has a nice strong chocolate aroma with a dash of coffee. There’s more chocolate in the mouth, with some cherry and a mild roastiness. The carbonation is spot on. All up, this is a good, solid, well balanced porter. Rating 3.6. Re-rate 23/7/2013. Not nearly as good as the in initial rating. The aroma and the flavour are quite subdued and the texture is a little thin. Just okay the second time around. Wednesday, July 20, 2011

3 Sweetwater Summer Ale This bottle was far from fresh (maybe a year old) but showed very well. Light and simple structure with uncomplicated sweetish malts and really was far more like a golden ale in this respect. A little spice to finish. Great BBQ beer. Monday, March 7, 2011

3.7 Sweetwater Weissbier Love the dead earwig comment by the rater below - can’t get any more "craft brewing" than insects in the bottle. Aside from feeling cheated that my bottle had no meat content, this was a pleasant surprise. The phrase "Australian wheat beer" has come to fill me with dread but this easily vaulted my modest expectations once I’d moved on from the dour appearance: unfiltered and cloudy enough but very spare with the head for a wheat beer. This might be the closest I get to a banana after Cyclone Yasi wiped out 90% of the Australian crop, so it was a bonus to get an aroma that screamed bananas. Maybe not real bananas, but banana milk shake syrup or similar, plus wheatsheaf. Nice full mouthfeel, with carbonation that just avoids being intrusive. Strong clove on the tongue. I knocked this back absurdly quickly on a 30C day. Good summer drinking if they can maintain batch consistency. (330ml bottle courtesy of a beer club the in-laws signed me up to as a birthday gift.) 3.3 Sweetwater Weissbier From a 330ml bottle on 25/1/2011. Pours a cloudy light amber. Has a massive aroma of banana/banana lolly. The flavour is dominated by more sweet banana, which is nicely balanced by a touch of bitterness at the back. This one is actually quite pleasant and refreshing. My only beef is that there was what appeared to be a dead earwig floating on top when it was first poured (I’m dead serious, but I did a bit of a Bear Grylls and ignored this slightly unpleasant surprise). 3.3 Sweetwater Porter Pours beautifully. The densely packed head is slowly consumed by the gently fizzing deep brown beer in an almost Guinness like fashion. Soy, chocolate, and nutmeg on the nose. The palate straddles the line between light & medium bodied, the flavours gently reflect the nose. The lack of intensity ultimately is this beer’s downfall. Friday, August 20, 2010

2.8 Sweetwater Pale Ale Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a very rocky cream coloured head. The head disappears pretty quickly leaving no lacing. Nice floral / citrus hop aromas. Plenty of passionfruit and a little grapefruit. A little light caramel, probably crystal malt I am guessing, comes through in support. Nice aromas. The flavours however are a little off. Carbonation on this beer is to high in my opinion. The result being that it over powers the flavours that are there. Some malt sweetness and that is about it. The hops certainly dont come through on the finish. Disappointing given the nice aromas. Saturday, August 7, 2010

3.4 Sweetwater Golden Bitter Bottle. Pours slightly hazy deep golden copper colour. Decent ricky white coloured head. Falls away pretty quick with minimal lacing. Some earthy / resiny hop aromas and plenty of caramel. Not too bad. Flavours are much the same though they did evolve as the beer warmed. Rich sweet nutty toffee up front balanced by some resiny hop bitterness on the end. not too bad Friday, July 9, 2010

3.5 Sweetwater Summer Ale 330ml bottle. Bright golden colour with a deep airy white foam that threatens to overflow from the glass. A little bit of cloudiness at the end of the pour. 3.5 Sweetwater Weissbier 330ml bottle. Sweet ripe banana aromas mixed in with cloves give this beer a very sweet lolly aroma. Cloudy with a soft carpet of light white foam and a dull orange colour. Light and airy in the mouth and delivers a sweet punch to the taste buds. Could drink a few of these on a hot day. Sunday, June 13, 2010

3.7 Sweetwater Golden Bitter 330ml bottle. Ruby brown colour with a light tan head that develops right at the end of the pour and then quickly vanishes to leave a foam edge around the glass. Biscuity malt aromas are pleasing on the nose. Nice nutty flavours with a good smooth mouthfeel. Another good beer from Sweetwater that is very easy to drink. Sunday, June 13, 2010
