highibus (301), Vail, Arizona, USA Jan 6, 2009 on tap no real head. jet black. aroma is light but some roastiness. flavor is roasted nutty malt with some light chocolate. medium body with a nice smooth finish. douglas88 (1012), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jan 6, 2009 Bomber from College Liquors in Grand Junction, CO. Pours a dark dark brown color with a medium light brown head, a wax dipped cap. The aroma is very nice; some chocolate, roasted malts, some earthy notes and dark fruits. The taste is very nice also; lots of cocoa, chocolates, milky flavors, some light fruits, mostly figs and plum, a bit of caramel and sweeter flavors, and a nice bitter roasted and hop finish. Not warm at all really. There is a sweet and sour cherry flavor that hangs around and is really nice. ChainGangGuy (1808), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jan 4, 2009 Blue-waxed bottle featuring the skeleton of Kris Kringle, the crowned King of Christmas as he returns from the grave to mete out justice with his bony fists. No one honestly has trouble getting the caps off these things, do they? C’mon, guys...
Appearance: Pours a black body with a modestly sized, khaki-colored head.
Smell: Aroma of dark, roasty grains, powdered chocolate, and coffee, giving it an overall mocha-like scent.
Taste: Roasted maltiness with a sweetish blend of bitter chocolate and caramel and the distinct taste of smokey, fire-charred grains. Sip of coffee. Interesting hint of oranges and ripe figs. Blend of earthen, roasty, piney bitterness. Finishes bittersweet with a lingering taste of chocolate syrup.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Nice creaminess to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: While not as catchy or charming as some, it’s still a mediocre to downright decent imperialized porter from SKA Brewing. 17thfloor (866), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 26, 2008 Bottle from spring. Pours black with a thin creamy fine beige head. Odd aroma, chocolate, cream, vanilla, and fruity cherries, smells more like a slice of cherry cheese cake than a beer. Flavor is nice and roasty, creamy chocolate, light coffee, a bit metallic and a hint of tangy cherries. Flavors blend nicely and is overly very creamy. Finish is dry and roasty. Medium bodied, creamy, with fine sharp unobtrusive carbonation. Pawola22 (172), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Dec 14, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a black body with a carbonated, lighter brown, finger-width head. Dissipates quickly and remains slightly lacy and swirly. Aroma is sweet cherries with some nestle quick chocolate powder smell. Light roasts and a bit of breakfast coffee. Taste is cherry sweet upfront then quickly moves to a powdery chocolate and caramel middle before ending with a little smoky quality and a light amount of coffee bitterness. Finish is dry and thin. Not very long lasting. Medium to light bodied, sticky, lightly carbonated. Overall, a little disappointing. Too thin for an imperial and not very long lasting. Even though this isnt very bitter, its still a little off balance IMO.
