Pours dark brown with absolutely no head (although a lot of sediment in the bottle...). Aroma of raisin, prunes, sweet sweet malt. One of the worst smelling beers I’ve encountered. Kind of makes me want to vomit...Flavor is so sickly sweet, sticky, and boozy. Wow, this is an absolutely awful beer and even one sip is painful. One of the worst beers I’ve encountered in quite awhile.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Hazy brown color. Viscous. A minimal brown head consisting of big bubbles settles fast and leaves minimal lacings.
Lots of powerful aromas. Molasses, brown sugar, raisins, leather and vinous fruits. Hints of boozy bourbon and alcohol. Very complex.
The taste is very sweet with rich malty flavors. Notes of vinous fruits, molasses, vanilla and oak. Leather, bourbon, raisins, toffee... feels like I can sit forever and pick out different components. Very impressive. The finish is somewhat bitter and is characterized by a pleasant well integrated warming flavor of peppery alcohol.
Full-bodied with some carbonation. Very smooth.
A very impressive beer. Complex and balanced, rich and heavy. Despite the massive sweetness, it doesn’t get one-sided, due to a whole range of interesting aromas.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a very dark brown body with a few large, migrating bubbles on top that quickly evaporate.
Smell: Rich, expressive aroma. A veritable deluge of sweet-scented notes, everything from caramel sauce to chocolate powder to those lil’ charred crème brûlée tops. And such a wealth macerated fruitiness, too! Why, it’s a real treat to be sniffing around this glass.
Taste: Sweet fusion of deep, dark caramel and vanilla beans with burnt, cauterized sugars and a good pinch of Dutch cocoa. The brew warms the palate nigh instantaneously and this easily makes way for the crashing waves of oaky, bourbonesque flavors to roll on in. And this one has quite a pronounced fruitiness (not that it was a surprise given the nature of the aroma) -- plenty of juicy figs, raisins, plums, and sweet cherries. Perhaps there’s maybe even a small hint of smokiness in there as well. Certainly has an abundance of sweet fruitiness on the warming, heady, oak-laden finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation. Lightly sticky, almost chewy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A slow, but oh-so satiating sipper. Plenty of oak character, but also heaps of bourbon barrel character as well even though it only represents 25% of the blend. Definitely give this one a try if you come across it! Theis (3740), Denmark
