Attention Professional Brewers

Posted by OSLO

Over the years I have noticed a number of users in the forums that have stated that they brew professionally, but are not verified as being with a brewery. RateBeer offers benefits to professional brewers that are signed up and verified, with more things planned for the future. Verification is fast and easy, and of course everything is all free. If you are interested in this, or would like to learn more about it, send me a message here on the site and I’ll get back to you ASAP. If you brew professionally and have not yet become a member, then there is no better time to join!

( replies) Read more of this discussion at RateBeer

RBSG 10 VOTING INFO

Posted by northernbrews

http://www.ratebeer.com/forums/rbsg-2010-competition-deadline_
125856_2.htm

Since the other thread is getting pretty long I think there should be a seperate thread regarding the voting info. If you haven’t been following the thread it might be a little hard to find the actual voting info.

Send your vote for either MI or NY to 65IBUs@go.com including your Rate name.

If you plan on attending one or both of the cities please vote. If you’re not likely able to make it no matter if its in NY or MI please do not vote.

Cheers, Jeff

Announcing RateBeer Mobile for Android

Posted by jfm

I just released a ratebeer application on the Android Market called RateBeer Mobile.

The current features are:
Set your "is drinking" status.
Search beers (results include your rating status)
Clicking a beer allows you to rate it or see your current rating.

Planned features are:
Beermail support
Location aware places list

I won’t make any deadlines for myself as this is strictly a hobby project, but I will do my best to fix bugs and update it with new features as much as time allows.

This application will be ad supported when Google releases their mobile adsense API, but all ad revenue will go directly to ratebeer.com. The application is currently free (but that might change in the future)

Feel free to report bugs or feature requests at http://bugs.moerks.dk

(13 replies) Read more of this discussion at RateBeer

Alesmith Speedway The Shit...is back...

Posted by BMan1113VR

From today’s alesmith newsletter:

As promised, Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout has returned! Tom Nickel and our friends at O’Brien’s will be serving up this rare treat starting at 6pm on Tuesday, November 10th. For those unfamiliar with Kopi Luwak, this one-of-a-kind coffee is frequently referred to as "weasel poop" coffee and, yes, passes through the digestive system of the Asian Palm Civet. It also happens to be one of the most expensive coffees on the planet.

Some have said that Speedway Stout has never tasted better than when previously made with Kopi Luwak coffee. We’ll let you be the judge at O’Brien’s on Tuesday the 10th! But be sure to get there early, there’s only one keg!

(117 replies) Read more of this discussion at RateBeer

The James Watt Interview and#40;BrewDogand#41;

Posted by joet

Dan Becker with a wonderful Full Pint interview of James Watt, Co-Founder of Scotland’s Brew Dog, a young Turk standard bearer in the UK’s nascent craft beer movement. Here’s some juice... (more on the click) DK: When I think of United Kingdom beer, I think of uninspired session ales, not bold, flavorful craft beer. What has the reception been in the United Kingdom with your unique beer?JW: The UK beer scene is stuffy, sleepy traditional and boring. Pretty much all the small UK brewers make the same boring 4% ales with the same boring hops and then package them in a folksy, old-fashioned manner. I blame Camra for single-handedly holding back innovation in British brewing...

(1 replies) Read more of this discussion at RateBeer

Samuel Adams Launches New Collection of Barrel-Aged Beers

Posted by RateBeer

Here’s a brief low down on the barrel aged beers release. More at the link below (Sam Adam press release via Reuters). These are all done at the Samuel Adams brewery.

--
The Samuel Adams Barrel Room Collection beers are available for purchase at
the Samuel Adams Boston Brewery and at select retail locations in
Massachusetts, Denver, Colorado, Maine and New Hampshire for a suggested
retail price of $9.99 per 750ml bottle. The Collection includes:

Samuel Adams New World Tripel: Pale gold in color, this ale is big, flavorful
and complex. A special Belgian yeast strain adds tropical fruit and spice
notes to the crisp dry ale, while Saaz hops add a subtle herbal note. (~10%
ABV)

Samuel Adams American Kriek: The intense black cherry character in this beer
comes from Balaton cherries, which were discovered in Hungary and are now
grown in Michigan. These special cherries are prized for their depth of
flavor. The tartness from the cherries is balanced by a rich, malty character
with toasted oak notes added from the barrel aging. (~7% ABV)

Samuel Adams Stony Brook Red: This unique brew defies traditional beer style
definition. The rich, malty brew combines notes of tart fruit from the yeast
with a toasty oak character from the barrel aging. The long dry finish is
almost wine-like. This is a beer that is satisfying on its own and also pairs
well with many foods such as braised or roasted meats, beef stews and strong
salty cheeses. (~9% ABV)
