Hoppy Alhel Braaksloos Strong Ale

Hoppy Brewing Company
Sacramento, California
Beer style: Belgian Ale - Strong Pale
Ref: ratebeer.com Jun2024

Common descriptors are
Alhel himself was a sort of Belgian Emperor Norton.
Named after a very obscure Belgian clown from the 19th century. A pint on the house will go to the first person to identify the name of the father of this clown. Now back to the beer - this pale orange strong ale is brewed with the Trappist ale used in the Abbe Castello and has a similar fruity ester flavor. It is mildly hopped and subtly spiced with a not-so-secret blend of sweet orange peel, cardamom, and ginger; along with a fair amount of Belgian Candi Sugar to make this beer full, dry, and dangerously drinkable. Probably the closest thing to it on the market is La Chouffe, but that has coriander instead. Estimated alcohol by volume is 9.1%!!!
