The craft beer scene in America has evolved to become so incredibly rich and diverse that subcultures of beer styles have emerged in certain regions of the country. For some, it is a common assumption that the West Coast sets the trends and provides the direction of the movement, paving the way with their signature styles such as “West Coast Amber.” I wanted to make a beer in response to the West Coast Amber, and so I present the Sixpoint East Coast Amber. Rather then emphasize the fruity, citrusy character of hops grown in the Pacific Northwest, I chose to emphasize the unique qualities of Vienna and Munich malts harmonizing with three classic European hop strains. To add an extra twist, I ferment this beer at warmer temperatures with a unique yeast strain I procured during my travels in Europe; a little souvenir from one of my favorite brewpubs in England. Our East Coast Amber invites you with a calling of fresh-baked bread and caramel. Beneath its sweet charm, there is an indication of spice and bitterness… yet rather than having the malt vying for attention with the hops; they harmonize. Rather than contradicting one another; they complement one another. It’s the perfect seduction.
