A Gunwale Dance, (pronounced gunnel) is a relatively new and perhaps completely unknown technical term within the narrow boating world for something which has in fact existed since the birth of the narrow boat. It is when, having had one too many pints of fine ale, a boatman cannot resist the urge to walk the length of his boat’s gunwale closest to the water. With pint (or violin) still in hand, the resulting spectacle is the Gunwale Dance!
