Our final Spring 2011 Special Release was brewed in homage to our national rugby team. Despite its dark colour, Black Bruges is actually a light to medium bodied, easy drinking beer, similar to the Pale Ale or Tasman Lager. We entered Black Bruges as a ’Festive brew’ at the 2011 BrewNZ Beer Awards in Wellington, where the theme for the awards was ‘Let’s go…black’ and were awarded a bronze medal for this one. Black Bruges is brewed in a Schwarzbier style. Schwarzbier are typically German-style but we have put a spin on this and brewed a Belgium Schwarzbier. Deep ruby to nearly black in colour - it is light to medium bodied with typical Belgian characteristics of cloves and spice.
