A Schwarzbier (pronounced shvahrts-beer) which is simply German for black beer. Light to medium bodied lager brewed with German Pilsner malt and black wheat. Although very dark in color, this beer gets a good portion of its bitterness from the German noble hop Hallertau Mittlefruh and Spalter Select, whereas other dark beers such as porters and stouts gather bitterness from larger proportions of roasted malt. This schwarzbier is a refreshing alternative to heavy dark ales usually served in the winter. 12.5° |
