An extra special bitter or ESB, with a darker hue than a British best bitter but with a more assertive body. The marris otter malt, or English 2 row, tends to be more pronounced, often tasting toasty or bready. Despite "bitter" being in the name, extra special bitters are balanced well between malt and hop flavors.
