Barley Johns German IPA Barley John's Brew Pub New Brighton, Minnesota
Beer style: IPA Ref: ratebeer.com May2024
Common descriptors are This beer is an experimental synthesis of two disparate and wonderful beer styles – an IPA and a German Lager. The body and malt profile are similar to a German Helles. It is hopped to the bitterness of an IPA using Noble German Hops. It is fermented with both our house ale yeast, and a Bavarian lager yeast (warm for a few days to get some of the fruity ale characteristics, and then rapidly chilled to deactivate that yeast, and let the lager yeast take over for an extended cold fermentation, allowing the grain flavors to shine and add a silky soft body). If the Germans developed the IPA, it would probably taste like this. |
