[probably an alias Beersiveknown] Appears aporadically every year Major Thomas Weir, who died 340yrs ago, once lived a few doors down from where the Bow Bar now stands. Known throughout his life as a respected soilder, preacher and Captain of the Town Guard, he later confessed to witchcraft, bestiality and incest having sold his soul to the devil. Convicted of his crimes, he was the last man to be burned for witchcraft in Scotland. His sister Jean who lived with him was also convicted and was hanged for witchcraft around the corner in the Grassmarket. His wooden staff, said to have been given to him by the devil and which was the source of his dark power was thrown into his pyre, and refused to burn. It later stood guard at his house on the West Bow and was reported to have been seen moving on it’s own. In the 19th century, an Italian couple moved into the abandoned house of Major Weir, they didn’t last too long before moving out due to the amount of paranormal activity. It is also said that a carriage can be seen being lead by headless horses and driven by Major Weir down the hill of West Bow. His house was destroyed to make way for the extension of Victoria St in the 19th Century
