The Civil Life Brewing Company
St. Louis, Missouri
Beer style: Pale Ale - American (APA)
Ref: ratebeer.com Apr2024

Common descriptors are
Brewed for our friends at the Sunday Morning Rugby Club. Forty years and still ruckin’! Not your ordinary pale ale but this isn’t your ordinary Sunday morning crowd. While tamer people are sleeping-in or worshipping, these guys are mauling each other on the pitch. Grainy and biscuity, some red colour and sweetness from caramelized malts, spear-tackled by big hoppy flavours. Toffee and marmalade. Tart cherries and red grapeskins. Earth and blood. Maybe you’re a star scrum-half or a retired old-boy. Maybe you were a high-school athlete but you’ve kinda let yourself go. Maybe you’re killing time in the sin bin, or only here for the beer. Whatever…just wrap your arms around it and take it down. No blocking allowed.

PLAYER STATS
ABV: 4.4%
IBU: ≈45
COLOUR: a bloodied auburn with white head and lace
BJCP STYLE: This is a tough call. Is it a too-dark, too-malty 10A. American Pale Ale, or a too-Americanized 8B. English Pale Ale-Best Bitter? Better drink another pint to be sure.
NOTABLE INGREDIENTS: Extra Special British base malt plus aromatic and caramelized malts, some flaked barley. Hops: classic English Fuggles and Goldings with zesty American Centennial. Estery ale fermentation.
