The launch of the Rare Release brand coincides with the 18th birthday of Matso’s Ginger Beer, a celebration of the brewery’s highest selling product. And what better way to celebrate Ginger’s journey into a celebrated milestone age than with a barley wine edition ginger beer at a ballsy 11% ABV made with the four pillars of beer: water, malt, hops and yeast. “We have been wanting for some time to bring the experimental wonders of the brewery to fans of flavour and fun, beyond the boundaries of our beer garden. We decided Ginger Beer turning 18 was perfect timing to celebrate our number one product as well as extend our range of unique products and the fact that the brewery has been operating now for over 15 years. I hope everyone savours this bold tribute then ponder…what will be next?” says Sales & Marketing Director Justin Wiebrecht. Matso’s have matured (pun intended) their Ginger Beer by creating an American style barley wine infused with ginger, natural spices then aged it on oak staves soaked in dark rum. The American hops, Amarillo and Citra, give the beer a citrus, zesty edge that cuts right through the malty flavour while the English hops (East Kent Goldings) support the spices nicely. “The most exciting part of launching this product is that you should probably pre-order at least two: one to drink now, and one to age for a year or so. This brew will age very well and is made to be shared with friends, so you’ll probably need more than two!” says Head Brewer Dave Phillips.
