The lightest of all Rauchbier styles. Helles means "light" in German. The smoke should be evident but not overwhelming to the beer. The lighter styles beer makes the smoke profile easier to drink. This beer style is primarily the creation of brewers in and around the Franconian city of Bamberg in northern Bavaria. Few brewers in America produce this style of beer.
