Common descriptors are
A historical German style ale, outlawed after the Reinheitsgebot German Purity Law of 1516. The law sated that only malted grain, hops, water and yeast could be used in making beer. The kotbusser, named for Kotbuss, the town in which it was originally brewed, uses oats, honey and molasses in addition to the malted barley and wheat. BBC's resurrection of the style is a crisp, deep golden beer, moderately hopped with German Hallertau and Saaz, with a hint of sugary complexity from the honey and molasses. The wheat and the oats contribute a thick, dense head and a soft, creamy texture. Think of it as an altbier with a twist.
