Common descriptors are
Stout is a direct descendent of Porter. Porter brewers began brewing a stronger, more roasted version called Stout Porter indicating a heavier brew, which eventually became known as a “Stout” style of Beer. In 1817 Daniel Wheeler’s patented roasting machine was introduced. This device allowed precision roasting of malts and raw barley, giving rise to black beers with a high roast flavor. Chuckanut Stout is more like an Irish Stout and does not have the strength of an Imperial Stout. This stout has an espresso-like bite from the use of roasted grains. The beer fills the mouth with waves of coffee, caramel, and chocolate flavors, supported by a full-bodied malt center. Chuckanut Stout leaves a clean and very smooth finish with a subtle lingering of roasted grain.
