Like many people, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was my first taste of good beer - probably back in 1989 or so. In 1990 or 1991 I saw an ad for the Dawson Street Pub and started to find out what good beer drinking was all about. In 1992 I drove cross country and ended up at McMenamin’s Edgefield in Troutdale OR. We ended up bringing back about 2 coolers of west coast beer back to Philly. I started homebrewing about the same time, and though I do it less frequently now, I still enjoy it occasionally. My wife has also developed a good taste for beers - though she leans more towards stouts and porters, and definitely not the hoppy stuff I like. This does however make travel a lot of fun - we plot out a few good micros or beer bars and carry an extra cooler in the car to bring home our trophies to enjoy with our other beer geek friends.
