I am a recent transplant from the south to Minneapolis. So, like most southerners, I thought beer had to be watery and domestic. My beer experience ranged from coors lite to miller lite. Lite was it and that was that.
Next issue, moved to minneapolis (we have a big craft beer scene up north)and i saw some Bell’s two hearted ale. I had never heard of it, but for some reason, and I don’t remember why, i decided to try it. One drink and I was hooked. I don’t know if it was my aging taste buds (they say as you age you crave stronger tasting things)a recent affinity for coffee, or what, but one sip of two hearted, and I was straight in love. It made me quiver a bit, and I almost hit the floor.
Previously, I had been a nine to 15 beer miller lite drinker, yes i was a problem drinker, but also I just craved that real beer flavor. If you drink 15 miller lites, by the end of the night your mouth is so dry and you are so dehydrated, it actually taste like beer. What I learned was, 15 millers = one sip of two hearted ale in terms of beer flavor.
Now I’ll have three surly furious-es and call it a night. It actually curbed my desire to bloat myself of huge amounts of off flavored water.
