Broadside was launched as a 6.3% bottled beer in 1972 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the battle of Sole Bay fought against the Dutch Republic in 1672 off the Southwold coast, just across the green from the brewery.
Ingredients: Pale, Black, and Chocolate malts; First Gold hops
Broadside is a dark ruby red beer rich in fruitcake aromas, almonds and conserved fruit. The fullness of the beer makes it a good accompaniment for hearty food.

Salian (375) - Sale, Cheshire, ENGLAND - AUG 19, 2018
A long time favourite of mine. Deep ruby red with a light rust head, aroma is toffee, winter spice. Flavour is deep, dried fruit, plum, Christmas cake and spice. Luxurious in the mouth. Great beer.

hohops (1317) - Kent, ENGLAND - JUL 26, 2018
Appearance is very dark brown, mahogany, a half finger cream head. Aroma- malt, toffee, caramel, raisin, dark fruit, plum. Taste- toasty malt, caramel, dark fruit, very malty, raisin, plum, fruitcake, bitter hop undertones, quite full-bodied. Very good ale.

Pours with decent foam and heavily carbonated dark brown body. Big molasses and cabbage smell. Flavour is brown sugar, pumpernickel, soft coffee. Mealy on the mouth, chewy, good oiliness. Nice drinker.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2018 Secret Santa present finally drunk in May! Dark reddish brown with an off-white head. Plummy, sweet aroma. Bitter, caramel, roasty, earthy, grassy.

ResinousStein14 (69) - POLAND - APR 3, 2018
Caramel, quite nice herbal bitterness, maybe a little bit too long. Interesting floral and mint (?) aftertaste. Medium bodied with nice head. Hints of raisins and red fruits. Also low, but still noticable medical note. But apart from this - decent beer.

cage.79 (223) - Worcestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 17, 2018
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2018 Bottle. Ruby red beer with thick foamy head that clings to glass and laces. Aroma of alcohol soaked fruit. Taste is rum and raisin, bonfire toffee - delicious. Bottle from back of pantry at least 6 months out of date but tasted better than ever! Had this on cask recently (in Suffolk of all places!) and was disappointed, but this bottle was lovely.

rayaron (2823) - Kfar Saba, ISRAEL - FEB 22, 2018
Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Thanks Oren. Clear deep copper with beige head. The aroma has notes of coffee, ash, some roastiness and dried fruits. Sweet and sourish flavor with notes of caramel, ash, coffee, roast, lemon, a bit alcoholic. Slightly dry, medium-bodied.

zvsn (3105) - ISRAEL - FEB 22, 2018
Bottle at a tasting, thanks tomer. Amber-brown color. Malty, caramel, honey, dark bread, prunes, nuts, alcohol, a bit too sweet. Medium-bodied, soft carbonation, a bit syrupy.
