COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Oktoberfest was introduced in 2000. It is true to the original German style, full-bodied and malty, with a bready aroma and light, brisk hop bitterness. When Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria wanted to celebrate his wedding engagement in 1810, he did what any good Bavarian prince would--he threw a beer festival. Bothe the festival and the special beer served there became known as Oktoberfest. Brewed from the finest German malt and hops, Brooklyn Oktoberfest is true to the original style, fullbodied and malty, with a bready aroma and light, brisk hop bitterness.

Surprisingly, this was my favorite okto of the recent mixed pack I bought, as it had a German brewer and Victory in there. Just had a good solid flavor that wasn't too sweet.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice amber with a tight off-white head. Big caramel, cereal, malt smells. Good backbone of rye bread tastes with a dry mouthfeel and an astringent finish. Mild carbonation and great balance. Lots of lacing. Very nice fest beer.

It pours reddish cooper and clear. Head retention is moderate. There aromas feature bread and bread crusts. There is a very low background fruit like apple. It has flavors that feature toast with some floral and herbal notes. There is also a slight bit of apple in the background. It has a smooth texture with moderate carbonation. It finishes somewhat dry. Overall, this is a toasty combination with floral and herbal notes.

12 oz bottle courtesy of my mother in law. BB Dec 20 printed on bottleneck. The pour is a clear golden copper with a ton of carbonation bubbles building up to a one inch light tan head. The aroma is caramel malt, nice toasty bread and some light floral. The taste is the malt, which has some apple sweetness to the caramel bread toast. Finish is dry with the floral. The palate is medium bodied with active carbonation and the softly Sweet floral finish. Solid take.

Long a favorite of mine, I burned out on Oktoberfests of any kind a couple of years ago, too many in too short a period. Ready to get back in the saddle. I have a Brooklyn Brewery version in hand that was picked up singly at the nearest craft beer shop today. The top is popped and I pour into my .47 liter New Belgium snifter. It delivers a nice amber-copper liquid along with a fleeting light tan top. Plenty of decent carbonation in any case. The nose is caramel and wheat bread. A drink gives up grain, malt and a mild bitterness. Not bad, I believe there are others that are better.

Aroma of toasted malt and some sweetness. Flavor is pils malt, slight spice, and caramel with minor hop finish. Good carbo. This holds true to the Okto style; good example of it. Maybe just slightly hoppier than typical. Pretty nice beer.

Turtles (3712) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - SEP 1, 2018
355ml bottle from Systembolaget. Clear copper colored, medium size white head that disappears quickly and completely, poor lacing. Leafy and bread malty aroma, earthy and caramel. Light bodied, fairly crisp mouthfeel, soft carbonation. The taste is watery, caramel, earthy and grass. Not too much going on here. Dryish finish that is gentle sweet and just with a tiny bitterness.

Might have liked their summer ale over this....but rated the same. Like summer brews, oktoberfests are hit or miss for me. This was on the miss side for me......close one though. I liked the caramel malty flavor, but the balance was not quite right for me. Probably prefer Sammy's Oktoberfest over this, but only sampled them each once. This was bought on sale/clearance for $1, and was a few months past the "good by" date....so may give another chance next season while fresh. Guess it was worth the buck to try.
