COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chimay Tripel, with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer’s flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz (beer-pages.com/protz/features/chimay.htm) and John White (www.whitebeertravels.co.uk/chimay.html)

Put you on your arse Belgian beir from the legendary Chimay trappist brewery. Strong, dense, golden, estery, slight banana and clove, strong alcoholic kick. Nice treat to see it on draught, thanks to Gareth for the sampler. Glass from keg at Beezlebubs, Cardiff.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2018 0,75 l Flasche. Jahrgang 2016. Bernsteinfarbenes, trübes Bier, schöner Schaum mit schöner Gardine. Riecht nach Kirsche, schmeckt holzig, harzig, schwarze Johannisbeere, der Alkohol kommt durch.

Complex aroma of white wine, fruits and some hops. Medium head disappearing to durable layer with good lacing. Hazy orange body. Great taste of fruity and malty sweetness, hoppy bitterness together with Belgian spices. High carbonation makes ths beer delicious and very drinkable.

I wouldn't say this represents the typical Tripel style. It's has a medium, oily body with plenty of floaties. I wouldn't say I was a fan of this beer the first time I tried, but really started liking it once I had it 2-3 times and actually started drinking this on a regular basis. This is definitely to be savored in your favorite glass and appreciated.

Copper/cloudy orange coloured beer pours a white head (quite thin) Nose of coriander, banana, malt, barley, yeast, spicy (like a smoked sausage) taste is very obscure but interesting. Sweet-ish with a bitter/dryness about the flavour/taste. rather hoppy too ..fairly citric. Interesting beer full of flavours and aromas.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2018 Bottle, 330 ml. Possibly this is the one of Chimays i can easily accept without feeling the lack of balance. My biggest problem with Chimays is the sensable alcohol after swallowing (mostly it comes back into the nose). In this Tripel i don't feel it at all. Normal copper colour, great off white head. The nose is banana and vanilla, great amount of malt inside. The palate is barely balanced, i mean i can feel the strenght in it, but it's not alcoholic at all. Sweetish, decent Belgian with great IBU. As it gets warmer the alcohol starts to come out on the very end. As a Tripel fan I'll never be a true fan of Chimay tripel (and Chimay at all). Decent Tripel under 3€, but it's far not the best i've drunk these weeks...

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2018 Big head. Wonderfully yeasty, with malt and hint of spiced notes. I believe I prefer the Red version.
