fiulijn (23846) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 30, 2009
Courtesy of Giovanni Marconi of Compagnia del Luppolo; this bottle and Bov’s/Allen’s are the 2008 version, different from the original one
The bottle is a gusher; it pours a cloudy dark amber color, obviously with a big head. Malt, caramel and chocolate aroma, slightly oxidised. It has a good body strength, with very good caramel flavor, bold, some malt; the bitterness is not too high, and in the final there is some evident alcohol warmth. A solid brew from De Graal, very good, if it was not for the gushing effect; it seems that the bottle I gave to Bov was completely different…

Embrouille (2855) - SWITZERLAND - APR 14, 2009
Poor appearance. Murky brown with a quick diminishing head. Extremely sweet and yeasty with a lot of banana in both aroma and taste. Residual sugars in the finish. I didn’t enjoy this beer at all. Reminiscent of really bad Quadruple.

Bov (14990) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - APR 12, 2009
courtesy of fiulijn - slightly hazy brown colour with a poor head retention; dusty, malty and nutty aroma with notes of banana; very sweet and full-bodied, unclean palate, long sweetish malty finish with a moderate bitterness and lingering notes of candi sugars and late notes of alcohol - dubious

A Mes rate: Bottle at Chris O’s Pre GBBF Tasting
Blonde with a good white head. Sweet and fruity with some good sherberty hops and nice spice. Pleasant Belgian style alcohol notes along with some juniper and coriander. Good bitter finish with a slight peppery sting. Has that standard De Graal sting without seeming infected like I usually find their bottled beers. This is pretty good.

diabel (1779) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - SEP 24, 2006
Bottle Deep amber body. Slightly hazy. Lightly brown, frothy head. Mostly diminishing head. Very interesting aroma of malts and hops, liquors, port, ... Very complex and pleasant aroma. Lightly sour, moderately bitter initial flavour. Moderately bitter finish. Quite complex flavour. Very nice and well balanced.
