A pale (Helles in German, orange colour), strong German lager brewed with 100% Organic malt and hops. A great big white head gives way to a sweet maltly note which is quickly followed by the aroma of alcohol. A rich malty flavour with hints of current and oranges is found on the first sip. The hops have a gentle bitterness to balance the malt. The alcohol is not a dominate flavour, but you certainly feel it after a glass or two.

Vibrant caramel-amber colour with a small white head. Appealing aroma of sweet nutty malt and dark rye bread. More rye in the flavour, along with buttery toffee and anise, and dry, herbal hops in the finish. The end is short at first, but as the beer warms up, the hop notes start to linger, adding much more to the beer. Very nice stuff.

At the Ottawa brewpub: Pint arrived with an average size white foamy head. Light golden appearance. Aromas of malts and hops, maybe a slight hint of vanilla as well. Some citrus flavours but not dominant. A bit of hops come out. Stronger beer but hides it well, the menu had this one at 7%. Sort of sweet aftertaste. Pretty darn refreshing. Good stuff, also on enjoyable on a hot day (Had the pilsner just beforehand) :)

341ml bottle purchased at the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Clear golden-orange in colour with a thin and quick to dissipate white head, light lacing. The aroma is quite wheaty, some citrus, a bit herbal, some white wine. Flavour is grainy and herbal, lightly bitter, some citrus fruits, honey sweetness. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes sweet, long, herbal. It’s alright although a little forgettable.

Une visite au brewpub d’Ottawa. Un bock blond trop sucré à mon goût. Le malt domine et ce malt est très sucré. Un bock c’est sucré mais pas à ce point.

On tap @ Smoque Shack Ottawa. Pours a clear dark gold with a small white head. Aromas are of ripe berries, some malts and a little alcohol. Tastes are strong grainy malts, cereal, and alcohol. Creamy, bitter throughout.

Draft sample. Dark gold in colour with medium carbonation. Fairly neutral aroma of pilsner malt and a bit of booze. Flavors are a blend of orange blossom honey, sweet pilsner malt, black pepper and minerals. Oddly boozy and heavy for such a pale looking beer. Not a fan.

solidfunk (10531) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - FEB 21, 2014
Pretty rough. Maybe it’s just that I don’t like the style. Pours cloudy orange without much head or lacing. Finishes too sweet, too much sugar with candied malt. No real body, average carbonation. Tap at Mill St. Ottawa.

On tap at the Ottawa brewpub. Clear golden pour. Aroma of wheat malt and orange peel. Flavor is mild of anything more than malt with some slight diacetyl. Thin, crisp finish. Bland and not particularly interesting.

Draught at C’est What, Toronto
Light amber color, creamy head. Both the aroma and flavor provide a delicate and correct malt feeling; there is some fruity touch more typical of Ales than of Lagers; correct bitterness.
Pleasant Bock.

worldbeertaste (1823) - West Midlands, ENGLAND - AUG 27, 2012
Clear gold with a thin lacy white head. Strong fruity peachy with a soft malt a overall bitterness. Smooth light body. Solid fruity malt taste. Very easy to drink. Peach, a light bitter hop finish. Great session.

Enjoyed at the Ottawa Brewpub with Lilihel on our first night there, with the ribs special and some nachos. Pours a golden colour with and amber hue and a small white head with minimal lace. The nose is malty with alcohol, hints of bananas and other fruits coming out in the finish. Warming mouthfeel with a little dryness from the hop, in the finish. Taste of sweet malts, well-balanced by the hop to cut into it, with fruit notes (oranges, bananas). Pretty decent Helles Bock that warms up, but does not overpower in any way.
