COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

Deep ruby-brown colour with a small tan head. Rich, complex aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and liquorice. Flavour is equally complex - bittersweet chocolate, roasty coffee, whiskey & brandy, and a warm, bitter finish. Remarkable stuff.

ramboraffe (2980) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - JAN 14, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2019 At 3 små rum, Göteborg. Vintage 2013 on tap compared to a 2018 on bottle. Both are black with tanned head. Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Less coffee inte the vintage. A solid imp stout that was significantly smoother when aged. 6 years of aging did this one good.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2019 Bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black colour. Moderate beige head. Chocolate, cocoa, roasted malts, slightly nutty, bit spicy aroma. Chocolate, cocoa at first. Dark chocolate, hints of coffee and cocoa in the middle. Cocoa and dark chocolate in the end. Pleasent aftertaste with notes of chocolate and cocoa. Rather heavy bodied but well drinkable brew. I like it.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2018 Purchased at Total Wine & More for $5.99, Old Rasputin is a Russian Imperial Stout brewed by North Coast Brewing Company. The smell of chocolate, molasses, and espresso are felt upon the nose. The appearance is a pitch black with a finger and a half of tan head. A brown hue barely shines around the edges when held up to light. The alcohol content is 9%. Chocolate provides a delicious base along with a light, thickening tone of molasses. Espresso gives off a coffee bitterness and flavor to the body. Roasted malts give off a medium roast feel to the comprehension. Brown sugar sweetens the beer and sugars the texture of the finish. Vanilla lightly smoothens the complexion. Old Rasputin is a classic Russian Imperial Stout. What makes this brew stand out is the espresso character and an ease in weight to a normally weighty style. This is one of the first several craft beers I tried when I started my craft beer journey trying a beer I haven’t tried before. Returning to pay homage and describe it, it is a good reminder why Old Rasputin is a permanent favorite. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. Taste: I had the Nitro version on tap recently, rich creamy, hint of sweet, chocolate, coffee, dry toasted malt finish. Same with the nose. Black, opaque, tan refined nitro head. Medium/full body. Better than I remembered.
