Oct 2018 - Keg at First Draft Denver. As 'Ommegang Hennepin'. Surprised I've never come across this before! One of the most rated beers on Ratebeer. Pours a golden yellow, slight haze, huge foamy off-white head. Aroma is banana esters and clove. Body is smooth with tingly carbonation. Taste is huge banana ester, lots of banana sandwich made with white bread and a sprinkle of sugar (Nanna style), icing sugar. Fun and characterful stuff. Hazy ochre/orange with a lasting, small, unstable, foamy, white head; little lacing. Aroma of ginger, white pepper, yeast, yellow apple, apricot, orange zest, breadcrust, wheat. Taste is light fruit sweet, apple & apricot, also providing a sourish wheaty touch; light to medium spicy bitterness hints at ginger & pepper; malty bready back. Dryish, peppery hoppy finish, spicy, yeasty, lingering wheat. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Good, really apparent ginger, but balanced.
Had with A while downloading Logan to watch tonight.
Poured form bottely. Translucent gold with a big foamy head. Almost overpoured.
Nose is pungent funky yeast. No mistaking that this is a saison. Some sweet grain and fruity notes as well.
Taste is bright, yeasty and floral. Very lively with some good farmhouse funk. A touch of sweetness on the tongue that fades to a crisp, dry bitterness. Tastes great!
Palate is crisp and very effervescent. Lots of that fluffy carbonation common in belgian brews. Lingering dry yeasty flavor.
Overall, I'm usually not big on Saisons but this one is nothing short of wonderful! Definitely one of the best I've had in this style! MacNJ (182) - New Jersey, USA - SEP 16, 2018
Unbelievablely smooth at 7.7%. Crisp and refreshing. Upon a second sip, it has a slight hint of sour apple. Great beer to end the summer and head into fall. Cheers! tikka (6) - - AUG 8, 2018 does not count
UPDATED: AUG 8, 2018 A great Belgium style beer. Good body, and very distinctive Belgium taste. This is IMO the beer that put Ommegang on the map.
