COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

33 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Rich aroma. Very buttery. Malt, toffee, caramel. Nice! The taste is quite sweet, but with a nice balance. More of that malt and toffee. Rich and creamy. Savory. Good bite in the finish that stays for a long while. Not bad at all.

Pours a clear, darker amber with a medium white head. I can honestly say that I didn't get any aroma. It was nonexistent. The taste is relatively more exciting. It has a faintly sweet tone to it, with flavors of caramel, nuts, bread, and floral hops. Its has a slight bitter touch, as well as lingering floral finish. Its light to medium in body and a creamy texture. I wouldn't buy this for myself, but its acceptable if I was at someone's house and I as offered one.

I too prefer their Boston Ale over the Boston Lager. I guess this is the original Sam Adams that we all started drinking. For me, it was the first "microbrew", although they have maybe always been a macro, I dunno. I never fell in love with this beer, but have found it drinkable....especially in an airport where it usually is one of the best choices. I'm not the biggest lager fan, but this one is aight. UPDATED 12/17/09- I hadn't had this in a couple years til now (it came in the winter variety pack). I am liking this more in the comfort of my own home. Noticing the malty and hoppy flavors more. Gonna upgrade it a few notches. It really is a decent beer for the price.

Pours clear amber with a creamy, yellowish head. Fruity aroma. Flavours include mal and some fruit, gently dominated by a pleasant bitterness. Good!

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2018 Fantastic lager, a slight sweetness from the malts but just the right amount of tart from the hops. Definitely my favorite beer. Always nice to crack one open on a nice warm day.

Pours a copper color with sudsy off white head. Malty forward aroma. Malty forward sweet body, very classic SA malt character. Notes: bottles since college
