UPDATED: JUL 27, 2018 B 33cl.

DWF; Bottle, 750 ml, take away. Pours large, murky dark brown with a lasting frothy too creamy lacing tan head. Nose fils with heavy malt, dark caramel, sugar, nuts, ripe dark fruit, rasin, light vanilla and chocolate. Taste is heavy sweet and light bitter with a lasting, warming finish.

GoufCustom (2597) - HONG KONG - MAY 27, 2018

330ml bottle bought at HKBWEX in Mong Kok.

Looks: Clear deep ruby brown colour with a ring of dirty yeast sediments; Virtually no head with residual soapy beige foam which fades in 5 seconds; Poor sticky lacing with zero carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant and sweet dark malt, with caramel, sticky toffee, light dark fruits, Belgian waffles, cream, light chocolates, floral, sugar, bread, Bel yeast and light grass.

Taste: Medium sweet dark malt, with strong roastyness, caramel, light toffee, Cola, chocolates, light coffee, floral, brown sugar, light biscuits, yeast, lemon, mid to strong bitter hops and grass.

Body: Medium body. Fairly slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Good dark maltyness in a fairly solid background. Very roasty but the coffee / chocolate taste is muted. A total lack of carbo (bottling / handling problem?) dampened much the 'Belgian' and 'stout' characters. Flowery with nice medium sweetness, dry biscuity with lemon to round. Disappointing...

Hoppiness: Floral and grass in nose, same in taste with lemon; Bitterness is fairly strong for an abrupt, mid to high astringent bitter-sweet dark malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Roasty and quite bitter to mouth.

Comments: Rarely have a Belgian Dark that is totally devoid of head and carbo, in this case much of dark stout enjoyment and Belgian estery aroma were mercilessly robbed. Although its nice strong roasty character is still intact, the damage is done. Would love to rate a decent bottle in the future but for now it's a low. :(

This is on tap at Sharp Edge Bistro, dark brown but not black, great pleasant mix of chocolate and Belgian fruity esters. Nice head and lacing,

04-05-2018; bottle; at home (bought at an unknown location). The looks of the beer are fine. The bottle says 'Mild Stout', but it doesn't look that much like a stout. Belgian Strong Ale is better. The color of the beer is a dark amber/ruby red. The beer has some cloudiness. On top of the beer a nice layer of soft white foam is formed. Foam retention is average. A nice creamy drape is left after a while. The smell of the beer is very nice. There are some nice sweet malty aromas. I smell some caramel, some nice hints of chocolate and toast and a touch of liquorice. There are some nice fruity touches. The hops are a bit old, but thats because I left the beer in the closet a bit to long. Hops are slightly herbal. Not bad. The taste of the beer are nice. There are some nice sweet malts, with a lovely touch of bitter toast and some chocolate. Hops are nice and herbal, but again, slightly old. They give some nice herbal notes to. The beer is well balanced. To bad I left it standing a bit to long. The palate of the beer is fine. Medium body, smooth texture and medium carbonation. The finish of the beer is fine. Not very long though. There are some nice malts in there, some of the herbal hops and a nice warming touch of alcohol. All in all, not bad. I expected more of a stout based on the label, but it is not bad. Lovely.
