COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

I don't know if this was an older bottle (was sitting in the singles section outside of the fridge), but the aroma was on the "soy sauce" side. Because of the strength of this beer, it had that dominant alcohol smell. Thick, black appearance with zero head. Such a dense beer with very little carbonation. Standard with most imperial stouts over 10%. This was actually 10.5% instead of 11.5% shown here. Had a good chocolate, coffee flavor....but I still think I prefer Stoudts Fat Dog over this. May give it another try in the future, but have so many out there to sample first. Still, a very good/quality IPS, just not one of my favorites. UPDATED ON 6/27- This bottle seemed fresher, with a deeper flavor. Rating it about the same though. Aroma not quite an 8, but not low 7 like before (which had some more "soy sauce" the smell cause not as fresh perhaps). Seemed like had some more carbonation and a small mocha head, which I did not notice as much last time.

Barwa czarna, piana niewielka, beżowa. Aromat czekolady, pralin, brownie, pumpernikiel. W smaku mnóstwo czekolady, pralin, lekki karmel, sporo paloności, skórka od chleba. Pifko gęste, alko ukryte. Dobre pifko.

[best before 11.06.15] Tough aroma of molasses with notes of chocolate pralines, brownie cake, gingerbread. Oh, the chocolate factory in the aroma. Pitch black in the glass, almost none head. Taste is semi sweet with creamy facture, ashy notes, a lot of chocolate stuff in the kind of molasses, roasty notes. Really creamy, with tough roasty finish. Really classic, really nice.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2018 Syrupy body, flavor overload that feels like a meal. Essentially everything that Old Rasputin lacks in terms of being a well-rounded imperial stout put into overdrive. Huge molasses-like sweetness, huge hop bitterness almost competing with one another. Delicious.

This stout smells roasty and chocolate malty, with some coffee in there. Jet black in color, dark tan, frothy head. Taste is mildly salty & bitter with coffee flavor- light chocolate sweetness. Smooth texture with medium body and carbonation

Bottle thanks to wombat23. Pours thick and black with a creamy, tan head. Aroma is intense dark chocolate, licorice. Taste is tart up front, full of unripe plum and berry but set against a strong, chewy undertone of chocolate and roasted malt. Finishes much the same, but a bit sweeter. The aftertaste is again tart with a roasted bitterness. Body is thick and chewy, quite sticky. Overall, very good. Nice to have this again after an interval of nearly 20 years.
