COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

coil (350) - Reading, Berkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 11, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 11, 2018 330ml bottle. Black colour with no head. Big dark roasted malts, big coffee beans, big dark fruits, tobacco, umami, weird light peat smoke almost, soy sauce, espresso, dark chocolate, burnt coffee beans, liquorice, weird light burnt mushroom, warming alcohol, light burnt vanilla beans, ash, bitter coffee roast. 4.27 and #21 overall seems a bit high but still a very nice imp stout for sure

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2018 Btl -10/11/17 pours a dark dirty motor oil brown/black color with a small dense tan/brown head that vanishes fast leaving no lace on glass. Smells of dark fruits, intense malt, chocolate, wood, earth, fresh bread and a hint of alcohol. Tastes of chocolate, malt, prunes, caramel raisins, tobacco, wood, and a hint of charcoal. Huge, big body, thick chewy mouthfeel, adequate carbonation and a smooth, silky yet slightly bitter finish. This beer is literally “ like a party in your mouth”. So many flavors that it’s indescribable ! One of the best stouts made! “Heavenly!”

Bottle from the Best Damn beer shop. Pours black. Tan head. Scent is roasted malts, chocolate. Taste nice and roasty as well. Finish has a good amount of bitterness. Very good beer.

With Nirvana Unplugged playing in the background I take this Saturday afternoon opportunity to open my first ever Expedition. A fortunate and pleasing acquisition at the Santa Fe, NM Total Wine, I pour the initial bottle (PKG 9/10/18 it says) into my ABGB snifter. Wow, there is black and then there is black. The body is definitely black. Very little head, a medium tan what there is of it. Inviting scent, chocolate, sour dough bread, malt. Now the taste, my goodness, it is like TEN FIDY on steroids. Very dense dark chocolate, burnt oak, ash, wheat toast, roasted pecans, just a touch of caramel. It gives a slight burn along with a strong bitterness. Now all I have to do is find a Black Note.

11/3/18 (Okemos, MI): $17.55 w/ tax six pack 12 oz bottles purchased at a Kalamazoo Meijer. Bottled 8/29/18, poured into snifter. Dark black pour, light tan head with nice lacing. Chocolate malt aroma, creamy coffee taste, malt is excellent. Very rich creamy mouth feel, carbonation olds. Nice and smooth going down, overall very good pour.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Redstone Liquors, Stoneham, bottled date 10/8/18 so very young at time of initial rating. Appearance is opaque black with dark brown at the bottom of the glass, nice sparkle at the sides of the glass, 2-finger width creamy, foam head with good retention and nice, soapy lacing. Aroma is mild roasted malt, earth, alcohol. Taste is fruit, pretty potent alcohol, roasted malt. Palate is medium bodied, creamy, smooth, velvety texture, pleasant alcohol warmth with soft carbonation and fruity, alcohol, then lightly bitter finish. Overall, it will be interesting to see how this ages. Currently the appearance and palate are great but the aroma and taste are a bit muted, alcohol is a bit harsh and overrides anything that might be subtle. Stay tuned.

Tastes like a regular stout. Had a bug in it while I was drinking it. Think I’ll pass on this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle with a bottling date of 09/10/18. Deep dark brown to near black pour with a small, fading tan or mocha head. It is 10.5% ABV but the booze is almost non-existent in the aroma with a bold dark, roasted malt presence. There is some alcohol but it is not overpowering. Milk or vanilla too. Slightly burnt but more roasted. The body is about full and very smooth. I can pick up a bit more of the alcohol in the taste than the aroma suggests but otherwise it is mildly sweet, roasty, charcoal-like, with a semi-dry finish. This is an outstanding beer.
