Description:
Cask; Special.
Ever-eager to spread our wings, cuckoos that we are, this time we were off down to London on what seems to have become an annual brewing excursion, this time way out east to Leyton and the adventurous and well-respected Brodie’s brewery.
Jamie has developed a reputation for having a go at just about anything in his tiny brewery and a huge range of beers - just about everything from 1.9% summer ale through mild, stout, bitter, pale ale to 22% barley wine - have been produced there. With Dave unavailable Gazza took the opportunity to get sweaty (it was bloody hot that weekend, 25°c plus!) and, atop a mash of Warminster pale ale malt, he, James and Jon rammed kilo after kilo of gorgeously fruity Motueka and citrussy Super Alpha into the copper until it could virtually take no more and required a spade to stuff the hops down...and that’s without the 5kg of Southern Cross pellets tipped into the FV the following week...
This should be a beer to remember and we have very high hopes for it; look out for "Mental Hop Bastard" in a few weeks and here’s hoping it tastes as lovely as it smelt coming out of the copper... which contained the thickest hop bed I’ve ever seen!
