The "public house" or pub in Britain often has ties with one particular brewery, meaning the pub would carry only that brewery’s beers (often the brewery would own the pub or stock in it). There are still some independent pubs remaining called "free house" pubs where you will find beers from many breweries and they may even brew some of their own beers. "Standard" or "ordinary" bitter is a beer style brewed for session drinking. It is a slight bodied beer that still offers distinct hop flavor and fruity tones from a traditional British brewing yeast.
