4th March has the Oxford Spires crawl which I believe is going to be popular. There is however a little thing going on in Wellington, Shropshire that day too. It’s Charter Day in Wellington where we celebrate the Royal Charter of 1244 granting the town a market. Lots of things go on: bands, street performers, Morris dancers and the appointing of the Town Crier, Clerk of the Market and an Ale Taster (me again). After the reappointments I have to judge a Bun baking contest and lead a Pub Crawl around the town. A local brewery has brewed a special Medieval Beer using ’Bog Myrtle’ in the kettle, so that should be ’different’. I know that no one reading this will actually come: but it’s just to let the city slickers know that life in the Shires is fun. <*))))))><

Both Leicester and Coventry Beer Festivals are on in March, a good month for the Midlands. Hopefully I will be going to both.

March is busy, so no Leicester or Coventry festivals for me. Hope to visit the IoW for the first time though, get some rates and a place review or two: it’s my lowest region in the UK rate wise by some way. Portsmouth and Hampshire will also feature rating and place reviewing if all goes well.

I had thought about going to Coventry BF and combining with a day pub ticking. But I see that the beer festival is only Friday & Saturday, which doesn’t suit me at all. I much prefer to go to beer festivals earlier in the week.

I will be there on the Saturday, the one advantage of short Festivals is that the beer is still fresh and plentiful on the last day. Not a lot on the Pub front in Coventry, having had their best pub closed recently, there are a couple of Brewery Taps recently opened plus there is the new Gonzo tap.

Beer Gonzo and Twisted Barrel are well worth a visit alone but if combined with the beer festival should make a good day. I think that there is a pretty decent pub close’ish’ to Beer Gonzo but I forget the name.

If anything it would be pubbing on Thursday, overnight stay, festival on Friday until train home. That format works best earlier in the week. Realistically, I’d not get away from the festival in time to get to Beer Gonzo before heading home. So it’s likely to be a no show for us. Might do a day trip to Coventry some time later - I have a vague plan to drink in every city in the UK, which I’ve probably already done over the years, but not in the RateBeer era.
