48 A bright brown café with plenty of windows and an outside seating area along the side. Pretty standard small beer selection with a few obvious locals (Ij, Oedipus) and some Belgian standards. Another nice Amsterdam brown café that doesn’t really warrant a place on ratebeer nowadays. Beer selection aside, a nice place to spend some time. |
66 Chill old boozer with a somewhat surprisingly interesting selection. |

66 A nice ’brown café’ with a fine selection of Dutch and Belgian brews. Nothing really special, but a nice bar to drink a beer with friends. |
64 We (me & my dad) visited here on Saturday 9th March 2013. This was the second of the three cafe/bars on Utrechterstraat listed in Tim Skeltons ’Around Amsterdam in 80 Beers’ that we went to. Inside the look and style was the least appealing of the three but the beer selection was easily the best of the three, I had Brouwerij I IPA, I think my dad had a Brand beer, not sure which one. The food looked pretty good, the place was very busy, however if I came here again I think sitting outside in the summer would be best overlooking the canal. |
60 A pleasant, relaxed bar on a corner of Utrechtsestraat, by the canal. The Ooievaar’s eight taps aren’t overly inspiring although they did include an excellent ‘t Ij bock and an almost equally good Texels bock. They also have around forty bottles of exclusively Dutch and Belgian beers (not counting the Bitburger alcohol free and the Strongbow cider). There’s a long bar with stools, large picture windows to two sides and a wall covered with posters advertising the many upcoming arts and music events in Amsterdam. Outside there’s a single row of tables which would have been a pleasant place to sit had we and the other customers making the most of some weak autumn sunshine not been hassled by an “artist” angling for free drinks. (Visited 1 October 2012). |
60 Comfortable brown-ish cafe. A couple of Brand beers on tap, including the current seasonal - on this occasion Lentebock - and a rotataing Ij beer alongside a few less interesting taps. Thirty plus bottles, including a few from Ij, Texels, Scheldebrouwerij and some reliable, if unspectacular, Belgians. Probabaly doesn’t merit a special trip but worth a quick stop if you are passing. |
46 This is a very well-known and popular brown bar between Frederiks and Rembrantplein. The Brand selection hier is quite good and they have other options. Very cosy and "gezellig". |
90 Nice bar with good beers and nice food in the center of town. Relaxed atmospheer. |
66 Nice collection of not too common Dutch beers, some Belgian beers as well, outstanding burgers. |
