Visited here in early April ’15. Large expansive liquor store with more beer than you can shake a stick at - not quite the selection that their other location has that I visited in 2009 - but still several hundred if not 1000 or so to choose from. Plenty of singles and reasonably priced bomber which is great for a ticker like me. Lots of locals to choose from. Plenty of rare beers to choose from if there is your thing. For singles, they knock off 10% for each six you buy, which is nice, but they only have 4-pak holders - odd. No problem at checkout with single pricing, but the cash register display is not visible - so you have to make sure you did not get charged a 6-pak price for a single by looking at the receipt - pet peeve of mine. Of the two - I prefer the other location - but this was close to my hotel.

This is a very large store on the edge of town, out near the mall. Almost a supermarket feel to it, from the lighting to the shopping baskets to the stacks of open cases to the long multi-register check out area. Big selection: one clerk guesstimated that they had around 300 singles and about 1,500 total bottled/canned beers. Also a massive amount of wine and liquor. Cigar humidor, too. Large range of brews. The real finds are on the long series of shelves opposite the beer coolers: lots of world beers and many good vintage bottles. The selection is not necessarily better than that of the Lumpkin St. location, but perhaps complements it. Oh, and by the way, go around to the side of the store to enter the growler and homebrew supply section: 45 taps (32-, 64-, and 128-oz. growlers) and homebrewing ingredients as well as supplies, and brewing hardware. This is quite a store.

A selection that almost rivals the other location, but this has more of a typical liquor store vibe. Much more brightly lit with white metal shelves throughout. The growler shop also includes homebrew supply though, which is a plus. The people here know or care less about beer as well. I would go to the other one if you’re just visiting town, but if you’re here for a while and find yourself on this side of town definitely the best option.

Holy cow. The selection is mind boggling, both in terms of sheer numbers, and variety. Interesting selection of Westbrooks and New Belgium stuff I didn’t see anywhere else, as just one example. Prices were fine, and staff were friendly and helpful. THE place to get beer in Athens, or anywhere else in the region, for that matter.

In town for the Terrapin Hop Harvest Festival. Holy crap what a store! Mega warehouse size, comparable to the Total Wine chain. Independently owned and not bound by corporate beer lists. I did not notice any meads, but I was awestruck by the beer selection both in quality and quantity. Cantillon, Jolly Pumpkin, Stone, DFH, Great Divide, Mikkeller, Southern Tier, and many others. Best bottle shop I’ve seen to date.

This is a short drive from downtown. It’s definitely worth it to check out the selection. There is a massive amount of beers in coolers and on the shelves, but like many comparable stores, I wonder just how long some of this stuff has been sitting. They still had Highland Imperial Kashmir from last year. Plenty of good beer at very reasonable prices is available. Brew Dog Speyside and Ten Fidy were notable. There is a fair amount of imports as well as American micros. Stone’s products have just arrived and most are available here for $3.99, much cheaper than back home in TN.

This place has improved a lot. This is the best beer selection I have seen in the entire southeast. Many crazy rarities were available like a bunch of Cigar City, Schlenkerla Eicht, and tons of lambics and sour ales. The organization has improved greatly as well. Many beers are ancient, given the staggering quantity of beer, but I bought a few gems that were still fresh and a few bottle conditioned sour ales that are just fine sitting on the shelf for a while. Prices are great as well.

Discovered this place on recent visit to Athens. This place is awesome, my friends and I were like kids in a candy store. Their selection of beer is the best I’ve ever seen. I think they have an even better selection of wine, and a very good selection of hard liquors as well. Service was very good, staff was very knowledgable and helpful with our selections.

Was very impressed with the selection! Most of the best beers in Georgia can be found here. The selection looks just as good as their original location. Staff friendly. Much more room than the orignal location. Great addition to Athens!

Wow! So I can finally browse the best beer selection in town and not be too cramped! This new store is run by and owned by the same people that run the original Five Points Bottle Shop (in Five Points). That means, that you can ask questions about beers and get good and honest answers. Currently their selection isn’t quite up to par with the old store, but over the next few months I fully expect it to overtake the original store’s selection (simply because they have room for more beer here). Tons of cooler room plus an equal amount of shelf space is divided by cases displayed on the floor. The craft beer has waaaay more cooler and shelf space than the macros. Overall, I think this will be a great asset to the west side of Athens. If they do what I think they’ll do with this place, there will never be a reason to go to Green’s again.
