Parking is on the street which could be a hassle, but I had no trouble. The younger guy working was helpful. The store is older, worn, and apparently they don't get carried away with the air conditioning in the summer. There are coolers of beer in the back right and many mostly empty shelves. The selection was somewhat limited, but there do have singles. Prices seemed average to a little higher. I picked up two cans of gose I have not tried before. I would not go out of my way.
I haven’t had any luck here. Strange place - sort of a convenience store, but mainly it’s just beer and wine. There is a fairly extensive selection of common craft for the area. They do get hard to find stuff apparently (ie - 3floyds), but I’ve never hit it right to actually get any. There is a small growler station and a couple cooler of mix sixes. I’ll probably check in now and again, but nothing special yet.
Visited later afternoon on a Thursday. Not far from the Ohio State University. I entered the store from the alley parking lot, which makes this place seem pretty dumpy. However, as soon as I saw the cooler doors, I realized this was more than a campus convenience store / Bodega sort of place. There are multiple doors of craft beer, all of the locals represented and a large selection of singles. I was looking for a couple of beers to get some work done later that night, and the place was perfect. I didn’t request or receive any service. Worth hitting, easy enough to get to.
This is one of the spots that I find myself going back to again and again. Mainly I love how they stay on top of new releases and their singles selection.
They are one of the only shops that split out harder to get beers in singles like Hopslam, KBS, Nemesis, 10k etc.
The place is basically a quickie mart that happens to know a thing or two about beer and wine. Plenty Alesmith, DFH 750s, Hoppin Frog and new releases.
They have a little shelf displaying the newest and greatest incoming product which is helpful.
Keep and eye on the glassware, some cool ones pop up every once in a while but dont last long.
A great little beer store that BeerVirgin introduced me to.I love the selection.Very organized and easy to navigate thru.Lots of coolers and plenty of shelves of goodies.Lots of Ohio beers and real inexpensive glassware. They had an old beercan collection on the wall that was amazing. The man that was working there was quite helpful, matter of fact when I asked for something, he wasn’t sure so he called someone and they were able to assist.A must stop if you are nearby.
You have to hit this place on the right day, the selection really jumps around. Some times the shelves are overflowing with beer, other times there is a hardly a bottle on those same shelves. My biggest complaint against the place is the temperature inside during the summer, it gets hot. But seeing as it is the only place in Columbus that knows how to do a singles selection I still frequent them.
Updated 9-27-09: Been awhile since I have been here. I think they either have new ownership or management. The place was REALLY cleanned up. Very bright now. White linoleum has replaced old hardwood. Still offer a great selection of singles and mixed six packs. But more amazing ot me was the entire wall and a half of beers in coolers...Definitely a great improvement here. Misc. glassware sold for a two bucks. Very nice selection for the area.
4-7-07: WOW...I had been here many many years ago before I was into beer. Stopped in today...What a delight! The store was clean and fairly well organized...I love that I can buy individual bottles and make my own six pack. Lots of selection today. Great prices...Found some unique beers I had not heard of..."Patrick" helped us and was very friendly and informative. More then eager to order anything that he didnt have for us...I really enjoyed this place and will definitely stop back.
I have not been in the craft brew trade for very long, but this place was insane. It seemed as though almost any beer I ever wanted was here. They had some of the local Ohio beers (GLBC, Thirsty Dog) but there was so much more also. There were Belgians (Duvel, Orval, St. Bernardus, Rochefort, Delirium, and a crap load more). The US beers were also very accesible (Rogue, FFF, Stone, Dogfish, and a gazillion others).
As I walked up to this place from the back alley I thought I was walking into a run down liquor store but as soon as I entered I found I was in a beer haven.
The guy here was very helpful, I was looking for some Siberian Night and he told me that he would call the distributor tomorrow and get it ASAP. He also told me that he wants to expand the interior (a corner of the building seemed to be destroyed by water damage and was planning on being expanded) and he also had an empty cooler ready to become an all Belgian Ale cooler so he could store Belgians at the correct temp.
This place may have been a little iffy in the past but if you are even passing throught Ohio make sure you check it out. It had everything I wanted and its only going to get bigger better in the coming months. This place had hundreds of beers in stock and this is not an exagerration.
They also have quite a selection of wine and sake if you are interested.
This place really confuses me. It seems selection goes up and down in this place in a bad kind of way. The last time I was there before Friday, there were loads of micros on the shelves and it was a beer hunters dream. This Friday I return to see that it looks like they were robbed. Almost all of the shelves were empty. Some brews in the cooler made the visit worthwhile, but it was not as strong of a selection as last time. The glass is still broken on the door by the way and I kind of like the boxes sitting around and having to search out your brews. Makes it a little like a treasure hunt. The people who work the counter couldn’t be friendlier and always almost beg you to come back. All in all it is a good place to seek out singles.
This place is a dump. Probably one of the dirtiest beer stores I have ever been in. Average selection. Half of the shelves were bare. The glass door on the front was cracked. I wouldnt think people would want to buy beer from a pig sty like this place. I will never go here again.
