80 An irish pub in the square in Decatur. This is a cool looking old school Irish bar. The craft selection is not top notch but they do keep a few dozen craft beers along with Irish staples on tap. The whiskey selection is amazing if you are interested in that. The food Ive had is good. Some Irish dishes and pub far. If you are in Decatur you are probably going to be at Brick Store. This is across the parking lot so check it out for a few beers or shots. Nice place. |
80 Small and cozy, it has some TVs but they are not intrusive. Serving people are alert and helpful. Food is quite tasty and above most bar fare. Beer selection is not extensive, but emphasizes local craft brews. Prices are good. A hangout for soccer nuts and anyone who likes an intimate Irish style bar. |
84 Mac McGee pulls off the pub ambiance to a t but still has some substance to it. The bartender was none too busy and did provide friendly service complete with an Irish accent. The beer selection has an emphasis on UK stuff but also features local stuff from Jailhouse, Sweetwater, Red Brick, etc. The stray Bells and Southern Tier tap can also be found. I’m digging the wooden bar next to the wide open door on this comfy spring day. The menu is most appealing but my stomach is currently full from a Raging Burrito. I’d recommend this place to anyone who needs that UK pub ambiance. |
96 I haven’t been to Ireland, but Mac McGee looks to be the most authentic looking Irish pub I’ve seen. Reminds me of pubs I’ve been to in England (only much newer) and with MUCH better food (except for the White Horse in London - yum). The beer selection is fantastic, but if you fancy a Guinness, they have four taps! Houblon Chouffe is a mainstay. As of this writing, they have Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere on draft - something my beer geek boyfriend and I have never seen on tap. Anto, the Irish bartender, is very sweet and has remembered our names since the very first time we came in (and we’re not there more than once/month or so). A beautiful, friendly, fantastic place to visit. Decatur has got to be one of the best places for a pub crawl in the world! |
