Visited for lunch on a Tuesday. Easy to find on 42nd St, just North of I-235. Small shop, with cheese and charcuterie right in front of you when you enter. There is bar seating (maybe 4 stools) and a few tables to the side. The beer selection is located in the fridge, and is well chosen with an eye towards pairing with the cheese and cured meats. Not much of a local beer flair, though Crooked Stave, Funkwerks, Surly, Prairie all stood out. Everyone should be able to find something. I had a Zinnebir with the Bacon & Bleu toastie which were both excellent. Parking is limited in front of the shop, though there is a large shared lot in back. My kind of place.

76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.

This is obviously more of a cheese destination than a beer destination. But the selection of beers is about as carefully selected as the cheese & the correlation between the two on level of quality is similar as well. The folks who work here seem genuinely interested and enthusiastic to talk about Beer, or wine, or most importantly cheese. But they’re knowledgeable enough about beer to put together a very nice but relatively small list and are friendly and willing to help out. All beers are pretty much sold at the shelf price you would find them at in any store... they can be taken away or opened there at the shop and enjoyed with a wedge of delicious cheese. This place makes Des Moines a lot friendlier a city to beer.
