Lovely full traditional corner pub noting two different foundation dates in the decor. Quite an interesting selection of cask including some breweries I didn't see much elsewhere on cask like Brew York, Bellfield, Arbor etc. Loads of whiskey, very busy & popular. Some modern craft even, tile decoration on the floor. Quite crowded, really enjoyed it.

Good corner pub with a nice selection of UK cask ales, although there were a couple of weird ones in between. Dimly lit. An easy stop on a pub crawl close to some of the best pubs in the city.

Visited on 18th November 2018. Large old traditional pub on a busy street corner. A couple of large rooms inside but not a lot of room as lots of seats packed in and little fixed narrow tables. Beer range was OK with a decent cask beer range from Scottish brewers, prices and service good, especially as it was heaving due to the rugger being on. A nice old pub and worth a look as you can work it into a crawl from Cloisters/Hanging Bat toward the Bow Bar.

Beautiful corner pub with a good range of ales and 1 pils brewed in Glasgow so no carling , fosters or Heineken which is good ! Nice ambience made from the people inside .. a good place for a pint of ale without any other claim

A traditional corner pub, rather busy on a Thursday evening, with a standard beer range. (Visited 2 February 2017).

I was transported to the boozers of my youth by this unpretentious corner pub in Edinburgh: Busy with a mix of punters on a Saturday afternoon Reasonable selection, all in good nick. Young barman cheery and helpful.

We visited The Blue Blazer Saturday 19th March 2016. The three of us (me, Dad and Barry) were on a weekend jaunt up to Edinburgh. I had never been here before, but realised that I had walked past it once or twice. It is a freehouse situated on a corner in the shadow of the castle (South West side). I would suggest that if taking in the likes of Hanging Bat, Brauhaus, Cloisters then this would happily sit at the start or finish of this crawl over this area.

From the outside it is quite a nice looking corner pub. Inside it is a traditional two room layout, the larger front room as you enter housing the vast majority of the bar, a tiny section extended into the backroom but the main serving area was the front bar. The choice was more traditional, with just cask as I recall, but with the footfall in here (it was busy) I guess that this would have a good turnover of beers. The beer we had was in great condition. The rugby was on the Telly in the backroom where we sat and despite being France v England (I wasn’t interested) it seemed popular and the myth of Scots supporting anyone but England didn’t appear to be followed here.

I liked this place, it was too busy and too dark to take in my surroundings properly (I missed the mosaic/tiled floor others mention) but I would certainly return here, it was friendly, welcoming and deservedly popular.

Small traditional pub at the corner of Spittal Str., just around the castle area, and the old town of Edinburgh. Decent selection of local and English micros, good selection of whiskeys and bourbon, friendly service. I stayed for a couple of weeks in a flat across the street in July 2008, and would visit every single day for my daily ale dose. Gets crowded during the Fringe Festival. It always feels like home, and it’s always a pleasure to be here whenever I visit Edinburgh.
