Did the tour, the best brewery tour I’ve done so far very interesting. The weather was beautiful so we went to the garden and had our beers there. All the prices are more than fair for beer, tour and merchandise.

We visited here on Saturday 25th March 2017, the we being me, Loz and Ian (Harrisoni on RB). Unfortunately we neglected to check the opening hours on here and just went from another guide which listed it as open from 09:00, it was indeed open, however the staff who we spoke with were very busy working and had been since 6am bottling beers. De Dolle can be found on the N35 its about 2-3 miles out of Diksmuide heading south east, it is on the RH side as you head away from Diksmuide and for orientation purposes there is a church diagonally opposite. Just checked google maps and whilst it appears that you can get public transport, quite bizarrely it looks like it might be quicker to walk as it’s just 34 mins from Diksmuide and less than 3km
There are a few car parking spaces available and a toilet can be found near the car parking area. Inside it is a working brewery so it was busy and a little cluttered on arrival, but there is a tap room off to the RH side. Loz and I had been here years ago (about 9-10 years ago maybe?) it was prior to having the camper as we were tenting at Ypres and we cycled from Ypres to Esen via the brilliantly marked and numbered point to point cycle routes that criss cross this area of Flanders. Back then we had gone to the tourist information office in Ypres to check public transport options and whilst it was do-able by train it was a pain of a route, though Kris (the brewer) on the other end of the line did offer to pick us up from the station if we trained it here. It was at this time that we picked up the cycle route maps from the Tourist Information. Back then we also did the English speaking tour which was undertaken by Kris’s mother. However I recall that we spent more time with Kris sharing cake and beers that he was keen to crack open and share with us. I am unsure if Kris’s mother is still doing the tours, I’d like to think so.
Whilst we were unable to have any beers on this occasion as we were too early, I could see that they had about four on tap including Boskeun the Easter beer that they brew. I have to say De Dolle are a cracking brewery, the beers are fabulous, I had an Oerbier at home just a week or so ago and had forgotten just how good this beer was. We will definitely get back here again, its a lovely place and has a very hands on feel to the set up.

Beautiful location with ample room for visitors. I had imagined the place to be smaller but there is room to accommodate a lot of folks, comfortable seating with couches and low tables in the warehouse + a nice open wood fire inside to relax, sip a beer and read a book.
Four beers on draft, + reserva in bottle. Oerbier pâté to eat. Very decent prices, friendly service. Kris was there and lives up to the bit of mad scientist imagery akin to that of Dany of Fantôme, if I had to take the Wallonian counterpart as example. He looked interested to chat, sits with you, then gets up all the sudden and leaves to later come back, pause with long silence and resume talking. What an experience. Too bad none of the beers are low abv.
Visited many years ago when the mother of the brewer gave the brewery tours, in her own inimitable way. I greatly enjoyed her discourse back then, don’t know what it is like nowadays but I can imagine it hasn’t changed much. Pleasant environment and fresh Dolle beers from tap after the tour, with a crispness and fraîcheur unparalleled by bottled versions. Memorable, so I decided to give this place a rating many years ’post factum’.
