Nice old building and a classic bar with lots of dark wood. I sat in the bar at ground floor. Nice service and cool pop/rock music. I had two beers, 10 oz and 13,5 oz. Flights? Oh yes, but who pays 18, 24 or 28 $ for 6 x 3 oz pours!! It’s expensive, even for a Norwegian beer geek... (Visited June 20th 2016)
First experience was a bit mixed. Loved the roof terrace - which we sat on although it was REALLY cold, because the whole house stank really funky. The beer list was good but a lot of beers weren’t available. We got both the wrong beer the first time we ordered, service was very nice though. I think this can be a super cool place, so I will come back and check it out again.
A cool little place with good service, beer geek friendly, old school dive, with lots of NY good cheers. They have a great selection and offer a flight which is a bit pricy, 6 X 5 on for 15$. Good place, close to EWR (if you have at least 4 hours layover).

EDIT: This place has a decent draft selection, but beware of way out of date draft lines. I don’t know how it happens, because I feel like they have decent turnover; but I’ve had more than one old draft IPA here.... Decent draft list, fair prices, and a laid back atmosphere. The roof-top area is relatively small, and if you don’t get a table there’s really not much room to stand. Roof-top bar has 6 beers on tap, 2nd floor has 6, and the ground floor has maybe 25 or so. Decent place to do some outside summer drinking.
Great find in beer starved north Jersey (other than old reliable Andy’s Corner Bar & the newer Copper Mine). Went there on a Sunday afternoon...great opportunity to get to know the place without a crowd. Karen the bartender was a great help & very accommodating with samples, advice, & great conversation. The tap selection is large (24 taps) with a nice variety of ales, lagers, Belgium’s. There’s an even larger bottle list displayed in a very informative binder which any beer geek can lose himself in for quite awhile. Being a hophead I focused on a nice selection of pale ales, IPA’s & double IPA’s (including beers from Jersey’s newest brewer Carton Brewing) but there’s plenty of variety for all tastes. The decor is very nice (see pix on website), & the food is as good as any beer bar (better than most but certainly not gourmet standards). If you are lucky like me to meet a couple of the regulars (self described beer snob Luke & local resident Orlando) you are in for an even greater experience. I was also fortunate to meet their beer manager Brandt (sp) which led to even more beer talk. All in all I highly recommend the Iron Monkey on its own merits but especially as a great substitute to heading into The City.
Cozy place with a small bar at the bottom floor, resturant on 2th and a small roof deck on the top floor. Good food and a good selection of beers on tap. Desent bottle selection, but they only have about half of what there bottle menu says.
Somehow I hadn’t visited this place until last week, but I was pretty impressed. I didn’t try the food and I didn’t get to see the roof top area (was closed when I went), but I heard good things about both. The selection was fairly solid, especially for North Jersey, where I haven’t found anything else with a selection this good, aside from maybe Copper Mine. I’ll definitely be back!
