82 Visited 9.5.16 in the afternoon. Good local vibe with chatty people of all kinds, folk music performance and table games. Was treated to a shot of Smooth Ambler moonshine by one of the patrons and then got a shot of their bourbon too - worth a try. Tap list contains micros and macros, imports and locals. We had 2 rounds of WV beer and while everything else was fun, this wasn’t. Sadly, the taps weren’t well-kept when we got there and the beer suffered from undesired flavors. It’s a shame, as they all got good ratings and some were from breweries whose other brews we tasted the night before. Yet I recommend this place - the town is lovely, the atmosphere is welcoming and maybe it was just a bad day. No regrets for stopping there. |
86 As my first craftbeer establishment in WV...this was a very good experience. The people and service were great and I loved the décor. The beer selection was very strong by the bottle...but what I loved about the drafts...although there weren’t a ton of them...the choices were excellent (quality over quantity wins every time!). I especially loved the local WV beers...most of which were new to me. I had a couple of flights...and then the bartender was nice enough to tell me that the Greenbrier Valley beer I was drinking and loved...was actually having their taproom grand opening only a few miles away...at that moment! How cool is that? So I hightailed it out of there and headed down the road the GV...thanking the Irish Pub all the way! |
84 With at least 100 bottles of beer on the wall, it has a pretty good selection. The food and service are very good, and they have live music on the week ends. Good beer, good food, music= win-win. |
84 We happened upon this place when my husband was working in White Sulpher Springs and it became our regular spot while in town. Family owned and low-key, we’ve had one of the owners as our server most visits. Very casual atmosphere- has Irish session music, live music performances, and a game room. The food is decent and hearty- the potato leek soup was very tasty.
They have a small tap selection and do a "99 bottles of beer on the wall" challenge where you get your name on the wall if you try all of their bottle beers (over time- you get a score sheet). Their selection has everything from your big commercial offerings to a pretty good craft selection in what seems to be an area without a lot of craft beer following. (Could be wrong on that- not a local.) Anyway, always a nice end to the day after biking the Greenbrier Trail. |
