82 8/20/16: Large place and quite busy Saturday noonish. Maneuvering a shopping cart was quite a challenge both because of the small cramped aisles and the crowd. 3 samplings going on, one of them beer. Employees were present and friendly but passive. Beer selection is good with a few rarities. I picked up an older New Glarus limited beer and some rarer Jolly Pumpkin. Lots of bombers but very, very few small format singles. Prices about average. Overall a good stop. 1/25/19: Upgrading my score a bit. Old score 78. Selection good as always. As Elytra said below, excellent mead selection, one of the better I've seen as well. Also a good cider selection. I was there today and noticed tons of glassware giveaways all over the place (as in buy a 6-pack / bomber and get that brewery's pint glass). Decent glassware selection for purchase as well. Good clearance selection with some solid deals. Got a New Glarus Stone Soup case for $14.99. Kegerator owners... this place will refill your CO2 tanks. Overall still a great stop. |
80 Stopped here with Virby44. Basically a large discrete liquor store like any other place in the US. Huge aisle of craft beers with Belgian and Americans. Breweries include Toppling Goliath and 18th Century on the IPA end and other great Belgians such as Girardin Black label.
Prices are reasonable - $9 for a bomber of Pseudosue, $13-14 for a 4 pack of 18th St NE IPA,
Staff was hospitable and offered to help at every turn. Ambiance is simple, light music in the background and a bunch of liquor everywhere. |
90 Largest selection of mead I've ever seen in one place. It is disappointing that they split the mead in two places at opposite ends of the store. Some mead is with nothing but mead and others are mixed in with the ciders. I am unable to guess why that is as cysers by B. Nektar are in both areas.
Staff is courteous and helpful if you ask for assistance. They'll leave you alone otherwise (which I really like). |

90 Great place with a fantastic selection of beers at reasonable prices. The only drawback is it’s cramped and can be tough to maneuver through the narrow aisles on a busy day. |

96 I’ve patronized this outstanding establishment for, no kidding, 40 years dating back to their previous, even-more-cramped facility in the 1970s. But let’s talk about the current location. It is insanely awesome. There is absolutely no room to maneuver full-sized shopping carts, but you do it anyway because the selection is so extensive and the prices so reasonable. Stock up! The craft beer aisle is bomber heaven in addition to having countless six packs (and an especially excellent selection of Wisconsin beers). If you can’t find what you want, ask. Super-helpful employees and even the beer delivery folks stocking shelves will guide you through brand after brand. Because there’s minimal shelf space, there’s always a chance it may look like they’re out of what you want, but more of what you’re looking for is in the huge basement storage room (it extends under their parking lot!). The store does get jammed at night and on weekends, so I always plan my trips there for Saturday mornings. Before you go, check out their website for their current weekly newspaper ad and also their listing of domestic and import beers recently delivered to the store. Discount Liquor has excellent booze and wine selections, too, but their beer variety and prices are unmatched in Milwaukee. |

Hundreds of bottles from all over the world with hard to find beers from all over: Belgium, Denmark, UK, Serbia, Montenegro, Poland. Almost half and half foreign and domestic craft selection. Specialty one-offs from local brewers, a giant palette of New Glarus including all special releases, tons of glassware, sixers of Three Floyds. Really out of control little kid in the candy store type of euphoria. |
70 Huge craft beer selection including tons of locals and others. More New Glarus than I’ve ever seen in one place. Prices seemed decent compared to some of the other places around. Definitely worth a stop. |
