64 I just happened to walk past and decided to stick my head in - had no idea this place was on ratebeer. A grocery with an average selection of bottles with roughly a 50/50 split between refrigerated stock and on shelves. I didn’t see anything too out of the norm but if you find yourself staying in the area it could prove a valid stop. |
64 Ambiance: The feel in here was rather clean and well organized. I felt comfortable in here though the light potentially hitting the bottles from the windows was a worry of mine. Service: I only interacted with a cashier. Neither good or bad. They did there job and that’s it, which isn’t a bad thing. Selection: A bit small, but lots of good beers to pick from. Freshness seemed okay. Overall: Worth a stop if you’re passing through, but I didn’t see anything rare or exciting that makes me want to go out of my way to come here. |
86 Stopped in here while at a conference in Philadelphia. This is a little corner shop in the heart of historic downtown. I was really impressed with their selection; they had BCBS 12oz in the fridge, albeit for $9 each! Huge variety of refrigerated beers from all over, including Chicago, Philly, Florida, California; and friendly service. Great place. |
82 Food and friends is a great neighborhood market with over 300 beers. Great location in Rittenhouse square. |
70 Walked here for souvenirs while in town this past weekend. This place is a neighborhood market with what looks like a nice selection of groceries for those that live local. I;s here for the beer and they do have plenty of good craft in the couple of shelves and maybe 8 cooler doors. I managed to find 6 bombers that I couldn’t get back home and If I had a way to bring them back I would have picked up more. The pricing was quite a bit higher than I’m used to but we are in the city and they do have strange liquor laws that I’m told jacks everything up. The woman behind the counter was friendly, seemed to like craft beer, a hint flirtatious and on fire. I’d go back if I was in the city again. |
78 when i was there the service was not too helpful (they were very nice and polite, just not very knowledgeable) - i thought the section was excellent - i came away with 24 singles - almost all of which were new. they had maine beer company’s mean old tom stout, but i was disappointed that they were out of everything else by maine beer. as others have indicated, very nice, clean, and bright and catering to upscale yuppies, The selection was good, it was in a nice part of town, and it looked like most of the inventory was new. i will come back next time i am in the area. 10% Discount if you get a 6 pack of singles |
84 Nice selection of singles. Prices are a bit high, but convenient place to grab a few on the way home. |
70 Nice little bottle shop, the selection is pretty decent. They have 750s on the wall and mix a six in the coolers. Lots of brewers and seasonals. Turnover seems good. Prices were hit and miss...750s were overpriced somewhat. |
72 Ambiance: Its a corner store and looks like a new corner store. New, clean, slightly upscale.
Service: When a beer guy is in, you can get decent beer specific assistance. Otherwise the staff will be friendly even if not helpful.
Selection: Very respectable selection. They frequently get the harder to find releases in and they also have all the basics.
Value: Prices on most things are decent for center city Philly.
Overall: I try and check this store every few weeks or if i am hunting something particular. |
78 Fairly new spot in center city. Small grocery/beer stop. Very nice selection of beers - Belgians, Germans, micros from around the country. I’d have to rank this as the 2nd best selection of beer in center city after the Foodery (for a non-bar). Check it out if you are in the area. Not a destination if you are from out of town but a great spot for us locals that want a good selection in the city. |
