Hands down the best place in the area! A great and fun staff (They always seem to be having fun even when it is super busy). It's been a bar since prohibition and it's been the North Star for 35 years! The food is way above par for a neighborhood bar & restaurant. When you walk in there is a beautiful antique mahogany bar with 12 sweet taps right in the middle. There is ample seating at the bar and several tables opposite the bar. If you'd like to sit down and take in the classic neighborhood bar atmosphere there is a dining room just past the bar. It can be a little noisy, BUT there is a hidden gem at the North Star... Hook a right in the downstairs dining room and head up the steps to a grand dining room with 1900's crown molding and hardwood floors! You can barely hear anything up there and when music is on you can't even hear the SEPTA buses passing by. I think the staff can forget that you are upstairs sometimes, but they are quick to apologize and help you out. There's also a completely separate room that has live music of all tastes. I saw Dick Dale there and I know that many famous bands have performed at the North Star.

I have been here for concerts and enjoyed the bar every time. Nice small place with a decent tap selection, usually something from Allagash and some Philly locals. Happy hour specials rule, the food is good but standard pub grub. The concert space here is small but makes for a really nice spot to catch bands. Kind of in a sketchy area so park in a well lit area.

This neighborhood dive is a cool place to hang out, drink good beers and see live shows. They recently took down most of the beer posters and replaced them with local art and took out one of the pool tables to make room for more tables. In the main bar they usually have good beers on tap but the selection rarely changes. The other room with the stage is very tiny providing an intimate setting to see good bands. The service is nothing special but the food is pretty decent for pub fare. They have one of the best happy hours in the city with 25 cents wings and half price of of draughts.

Very much a corner bar with a nice surprise for live acts. It honestly looks pretty dirty, and has the hometown/ neighborhood feel. I enjoyed my night, wasn’t overall surprised by the beer selection, but appreciated the $1 shots all nite for a average at best live act. Had I not been intoxicated I may have left early as the couches were disgusting.

Has a number of local micros on tap and some other craft stuff like allagash rotating in. Wasn’t able to find anything new I liked there and wondered if some of it was due to service mix ups or poor quality / maintenence of serving equipment. My beers both tasted mediocre and way less than others rated those same beers, but my friends all had similar observations. The service was efficient but not friendly. The other patrons kind of sucked. The music is occasionally good but most of the live stuff is pablum and the same with what they play on cd’s. I wouldn;t really want to go back here unless I was desperate to go to a bar and that was the only thing reasonably convenient. Certainly not worth traveling to visit, but if you’re going to see a band there, you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised at the selection being a notch above average.
