One of the better taproom experiences out there. Let me start by saying, they only offer 4 beers, taster pours only, but it is 100% free. Yes, free. Get your 4 pours, enjoy the hell out of them while sitting outside, then go buy some merch or bottles in the shop.
Visited on a Sunny day. We got a tour here, and saw the many great aspects this Brewery provides. The barrel rooms, the coolship... Absolutely great place ! The staff is extremely friendly, and not at all arogant, even though they're about the best Brewery in the very wide area. we shared some beers ( flights available at their bar ) and bought some merch. Nothin' really much to say negative here.. perhaps quit limited choice in bottles ? But that might be just because all the crazy Americans buy everything in bulk when it comes out :)
I wasn’t aware that they didn’t allow growler fills until it was already too late. 4 taps, usually passable and inoffensive middle of the road ales tapped throughout the year. Their secret fifth tap occasionally carries something interesting. Tours are well worth frustratingly having to schedule a time with their consistently busy retail management. Almost always crowded. Tourists everywhere. Nothing to eat but my own saliva. In walking distance (literally the same lot) to another massively celebrated Maine brewery; though I’ll you Google which I’m actually talking about. Their to-go bottle selection has varied thoughout the years in terms of steady wonderfulness. Some times they have bottles releases like Pick Your Own or Midnight Brett, but you can’t make a (great) omelet without making breaking a few eggs, am I right?
Had to stop at Allagash on our trip. The place was packed, but luckily we found a couple spots at the bar and took advantage of the complimentary flight. We didn’t do the tour, however. The beers were all good, as you’d expect from a brewery like Allagash. They were also doing a bottle release that day (Monmouth Red).
There is a small patio outside and inside is a decent sized bar along with cooler doors full of beers and plenty of shirts, glasses, etc. to purchase.
The people were friendly enough, but I get the sense it’s mainly about efficiency here as you just get the free flight and then maybe buy something to go or leave.
Still, they get a decent enough score as the place is well run, the prices on the bottles are fair, you get a free flight, and they do a good job here.
Visited Tuesday, 5/17/2016. Had a house beer while we waited for our tour, and then during the tour, sampled four more beers. All of the beers sampled were free. Employees were helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They do offer bottles for sale to take home. If you want to do a tour of the brewery, make a reservation online because it can get busy.
Free flight of 4 just for showing up. Larger selection of bottles than taps. WIFI. Roomy bar and table area. Not a place where you will get a lot of ticks but I watched several people carry out boxes of random beers. Friendly staff. Pretty easy place to get to. I still like the free beer aspect. Why don’t more places do this.
These guys give a great (and free) tour / tasting. Really go into a nice amount of detail, and you get to cover the whole place (which is impressively large). Finishes in the barrel room, which is really quite impressive. The koolship is not part of the regular folks tour sadly, but I’ve sure they take some people to see it. The tasting was 4 beers, including their house beer which is only sold there (and I wish was available in distro and it was really quite clean, easy drinking, and flavorful). People working here are nice. Definitely feels like a professional operation. I would recommend making the reservation for the tour on-line, as some people I saw try to walk in were told they couldn’t get on a tour for a couple of hours.
Nice stop. We’d planned on stopping in for bottles, but surprise! We were greeted with a question about whether or not we wanted free beer! Got a free flight, talked to a very helpful and knowledgeable waitress about the trip we were on, and then she gave us free swag! This was a surprise!
