82 Pretty dark pub with lots of wood and paraphernalia all around. About 50 taps included some usual suspects like Guinness, but also some nice quality local lagers. As long as you don't expect high end stuff you should find something for yourself. Food was good. Worth checking out. |
68 decent selection of what they can get. selection of micros that cannot break the scene, in a uk type bar. |

90 Without a doubt, one of the top three pubs in Portland. Dark, cozy, festive: a place to cool down on a hot summer day or warm up in the rainy winter. Fantastic rotation of "guest" beers in addition to a strong core befitting a British-style pub. Surprisingly good food, if you pick right - the fish and chips for instance are fantastic. |
92 No matter how many times, I visit Portland, the world renown Horse Brass Pub is always on my list. It is a classic venue to quaff some excellent beers. Opened as a traditional English pub, with a rambling and woody interior, serving over 50 local, national and international beers (in a proper imperial pint glass), Horse Brass offers a wonderful experience. In addition to the beer, there is the pub grub, such as Scottish Eggs, fish and chips and (my favorite) bangers and mash - with peas. But the beers are the thing; in my case, an IPA from Breakside (see my review), Modern Times pilsner, a brew from Laurelwood and (my favorite English beer), Old Speckled Hen. Though a bit out of the city in the Belmont district, you can easily get there on bus 15, which stops in front. Enjoy and Cheers |
86 I made it a point to visit this place while we were in Portland a while back and I wasn’t disspointed. Great tap list, great atmosphere, great service. One of those bars that you go in for a pint and end up slowly sipping multiple ones becuase it’s just a such a good place to imbibe. Tops. |
80 Impressive list of some 50 taps with some forreign boring ones (Guiness etc) but also a lot of locals including some real exciting ones. Service at the bar was fine but I have to deduct a point for not having wifi. It’s a large british style pub |
82 A great English feel with exceptional service. The beer list was a definite plus too. The food was pub food - I ordered the bangers and mash that was okay (but kinda plain). My friend got the chicken pot pie and liked it. Overall worth the trip if you want to hit the top historical craft beer places in Portland but I don’t really see the need to visit here or Belmont Station again as the brewpubs in town are more interesting. |
86 You have to love the look and feel of this place...not to mention the history. Feels like a classic British Pub...only bigger. although the beer list is not quite what I’d call amazing...it’s pretty darn good. Add to that some really good pub food...with the cool vibe and you have a great night out...even better with a large group. |
82 Visited on a Monday afternoon in November 2015. The exterior hides the old traditional English Pub Interior. It’s dark with lots of wood panels and beer memorabilia adorning the walls. Service was good. Snacked on a scotch egg with proper hand cut chips that tasted great. Interesting beer range at decent prices. Really like this place. |
